I want to attach a Pages or Pdf document to an outgoing message on Instagram, but I'm only able to attach a photo, however, I'm not able to convert either the Pages or the Pdf version of the document I'm trying to attach as a Photo.

If this is a one-page or a few-pages document, screenshot the page(s) and attach that.
AFAIK, Instagram does not support attaching arbitrary file types; whether Pages or otherwise.
Supported file formats are JPG, PNG, and HEIC/HEIF.

Beginning with Pages v13.1 on Monterey, one can export single-page Pages documents as an image.
Just a single document with brief text and a photo on it. It is saved as both a Pages doc and a pdf, no problem. And thanks for the screenshot suggestion. Will try that now. And yah, first time I've tried to attach anything to an instagram message, and finding obstacle. Thanks for informing me what the supported file formats are.
