Is it possible to download and listen to music or audiobooks using wireless Bluetooth earbuds on an Apple Watch Series 9 or without an iPhone present?

I’ve been thinking about getting an Apple Watch, I want to get one because I like running and listening to music, but hate having to carry my phone around with me when I run. I was thinking about getting an Apple Watch to listen to music with, but I have heard conflicting reports as to whether or not this is possible. I’ve been told that, apparently, you can only listen to it with Bluetooth earbuds if an iPhone is present - however, I have also heard that Bluetooth earbuds can be connected directly to the Watch. Posts such as this: bluetooth music from watch to earbuds - c… - Apple Community

make it seem like it is possible to connect it directly to the Watch, but I have also been told by people in stores where I’ve gone to look at Apple Watches that it isn’t possible without connecting to a phone and having it present.

I’d also like to ask as to whether or not it is possible to download music or audiobooks directly onto the Apple Watch, without the phone present. The audible website seems to claim that it is: https://help.audible.co.uk/s/article/download-titles?language=en_GB#:~:text=Open%20the%20Audible%20app%20on,for%20offline%20listening%20once%20complete.

but an employee at a store told me that apparently Apple Watches have ‘no internal storage’.

please give me a straight answer, can I download and listen to audiobooks and music on an Apple Watch using wireless earbuds and leave my phone at home? Or is that simply not possible.

Thank you for reading this.

Hello,

You can actually download music and audiobooks or podcasts to apple watch.

I have a storage of 64gb on my Series 9 and I can simply download them into the watch and listen without my phone. And is recommended to download things into watch so you can enjoy a longer battery life while running and not using LTE for the things that you want to listen to.

So simple answer: yes, it is definitely possible to listen to what you download with wireless earbuds.

Hope it helps.

Add audiobooks to Apple Watch

Apple Watch can sync audiobooks from Apple Books.

Note: Audiobooks from other sources aren’t synced to Apple Watch.

  1. Open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone.
  2. Tap My Watch, then tap Audiobooks.
  3. Tap Add Audiobook, then select audiobooks to add them to your Apple Watch.

If there’s available storage space, the entire contents of the audiobook you’re currently listening to—as well as the one listed below Want to Read—are automatically synced to your Apple Watch. Five hours from each audiobook you add is also downloaded to your Apple Watch when there’s available space. Audiobooks sync to Apple Watch when it’s connected to power.

Add music using your iPhone

  1. Open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone.
  2. Tap My Watch, then tap Music.
  3. Below Playlists & Albums, tap Add Music.
  4. Navigate to albums and playlists you want to sync to your Apple Watch, then tap  to add them to the Playlists & Albums queue.

Music is added when Apple Watch is near your iPhone.

Tip: Use the Music app on your iPhone to create playlists specifically for music you want to listen to on your Apple Watch—music that motivates you during a workout, for example. See the Apple Support article How to create a playlist in the Apple Music app.
