iMessage saying notifications are silenced when I don’t have Do Not Disturb on?

My friends have brought it to my attention that iMessage says I have my notifications silenced, but I don’t have Do Not Disturb or Focus on. I’ve had this issue for a long while. Is there something I can do to fix this??

Have you enabled Scheduled Summary? Enable Immediate Delivery

Settings > Notifications > [Select the App that you are having trouble receiving immediate notifications]

See the pic below for a few examples. Please select immediate delivery.

Go to Settings and tap Notifications. Select an app under Notification Style. Under Alerts, choose the alert style that you want. If you turn on Allow Notifications, choose when you want the notifications delivered — immediately or in the scheduled notification summary.

Use notifications on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

Change notification settings on iPhone

  1. Go to Settings > Notifications.
  2. To schedule a notifications summary, tap Scheduled Summary, then turn on Scheduled Summary. ...
  3. To choose when you want most notification previews to appear, tap Show Previews, select an option—Always, When Unlocked, or Never—then tap.

Here are some additional tips for troubleshooting notification problems on your iPhone:

  • Make sure that your iPhone is not in silent mode.
  • Check the notification settings for individual apps to make sure that they are turned on.
  • Make sure that your iPhone is connected to a Wi-Fi network or cellular data network.
  • Restart your iPhone.
  • Update your iPhone to the latest version of iOS.
  • Contact Apple support for help.

Turn off all focus (DND, Driving, Work, Sleep, Personal, Any other). Open the Control center and see if this helps.

And then turn back the only Focus that you need.

If your family is still receiving texts with the message "notification silenced" when messaging you, it could be due to a few different settings or configurations on your iPhone or iPad. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can follow to resolve the issue:

Check Individual Contact Settings:

  • Open the Messages app on your iPhone.
  • Find a conversation with one of your family members.
  • Tap the contact name at the top of the conversation to open the contact details.
  • Check if "Hide Alerts" or "Emergency Bypass" is enabled for that contact. If so, toggle it off.

Check Mute Conversation:

  • In the Messages app, swipe left on the conversation with your family member.
  • If "Hide Alerts" or "Mute" is enabled, tap on it to unmute the conversation.
  • Hide Alerts watch the GIF below

SMS and iMessage notifications settings are not different. However, if the recipient has enabled Hide Alerts for a specific message thread then there won't be any sound irrespective of DND

For Hide Alerts please see the pic 1 below. Follow Pic 2 for two scenarios; DND+Hide Alert and Only DND

Chat GPT ftw. I called Apple support, and they were very helpful, but I was going through everything I already tried. What worked was step 5, "Reset Phone," and creating a 'Do Not Disturb schedule, then turning it off."

Restart Your iPhone: Sometimes, a simple restart can fix minor software

glitches that might be causing the issue with the notifications.

Press and hold either the volume button and the side button

until the power off slider appears.

Drag the slider, then wait 30 seconds for your device to

turn off.

To turn your device back on, press and hold the side button

(on the right side of your iPhone) until you see the Apple logo.

Check Notification Settings for Each App:

Go to Settings > Notifications.

Tap on the app for which notifications appear silenced.

Ensure that the "Allow Notifications" toggle is

turned on and choose your preferred alert styles (Lock Screen, Notification

Center, Banners).

Update Your iPhone:

Ensure your iPhone is running the latest version of iOS. Go

to Settings > General > Software Update. If an update is available,

download and install it.

Check Do Not Disturb Settings:

Even though Focus mode is off, double-check that Do Not

Disturb (a feature within Focus on newer iOS versions) is not enabled. Go to

Settings > Focus > Do Not Disturb to verify.

Reset All Settings:

If none of the above steps work, you might need to reset all

settings. This will not erase your data but will reset system settings like

Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Notifications, and Privacy settings.

Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone

> Reset > Reset All Settings.

Check for Any Custom Focus Modes:

Sometimes custom Focus modes might be affecting your

notifications. Make sure there are no active Focus modes that you might have

overlooked. Go to Settings > Focus and review any setups you have.

Contact Apple Support:

If the problem persists, there might be a more complex issue

at play. Contact Apple Support for professional assistance or visit an Apple

Store for hands-on help.
