Why can't I share Contacts between 2 AppleID accounts?

Not begin able to do that is the main reason many people share 1 AppleID.

And Apple keeps trying to get people to stop sharing 1 AppleID, so just make it so we can share Contacts already!

The issue is Apple doesn't let you share Contacts between 2 different AppleID's.
That's what I want to do, but there's no mechanism for that.
If you know how to do that, let me know!

Re the suggestion to put contacts in a gmail account and share them from there, I only trust Apple with my Contacts info: there's no way I'm going to put my Contacts with gmail.

Share a third Apple ID, used (shared) solely for contacts.

That third Apple ID does not need to be part of Family Sharing.

Configure the third Apple ID as a CardDAV contacts server in Apple Contacts app.
