dark mode for apple mail message body

Whet Dark mode does not make the body of email dark, this can be achieved by making a shortcut for Accessibility- Invert colors. then open the mail, hit the shortcut and the body will switch to white text on black. Hit the shortcut key again and it's back to normal.

If anyone finds a better way, let me know.

Clever, but if you're already in Dark mode (or Auto at night, vs. Light), it makes the message body dark, but the rest of your system goes hot, bright white...clearly they could do this if they tried properly, but no.After ages trying to find the same solution, it AMAZES me that the company that brought us an awesome dark mode on iOS can't be bothered to get it right in their own macOS apps?

I had to install an extension (Dark Reader) in FIrefox (see below...otherwise this site would be bright white too) and gave up on Safari and now Apple Mail's all but useless dark option ONLY makes the HEADER dark and the body of email stays white. They say that only works for TEXT email - who the HECK uses PLAIN TEXT email in 2024? Microsoft is famous for copying Apple, but Apple should return the favor, b/c Microsoft 365's Outlook on the Web does DARK MODE INCREDIBLY. Why Apple can't get it right is beyond me? It's waaaay overdue for a company so hot for form over function these days. It should also follow the system setting, so if I set my mode to Auto (vs. always Dark, or Light) then change the app(s) when the system changes too. But no, Apple Mail messages remain stuck in the dark ages with no legit dark mode that actually works.
