Hey all. So I just struggled through to a solution for this by combining a few things I found on this forum and elsewhere. My wife and I had recently upgraded to new phones and location sharing was working before but after getting the new phones she could see my phone on the app but I couldn’t see hers. No amount of deleting and re adding or resetting helped. Even creating a “family” that the two of us were sharing locations within, did nothing to help.

The solution I found was actually three parts. I had seen someone mention that having older phones on their account caused a problem. So first thing I did was tap the “devices” tab in the Find My app. On my phone (the one that could be seen but not see) all the devices shown were active devices (devices I currently own and use). However on my wife’s phone (the one that could see but not be seen) it showed two of her older phones that she had never removed. We removed those from the “devices” list in her Find My app.

However that only removes the devices from the app, the next step after some digging was to go into the Apple ID settings which is the very first option in settings. It should be the one with your name. Once in there scroll down to see the list of devices associated with your Apple ID account. Remove all devices from your account that are no longer active (old phones that are gone etc).

Now at this point it *still* didn’t work, but then I figured out the last piece to the puzzle. Below your Apple ID settings in the main settings menu, (or below “family” if you have that active) will sometimes appear another “setting” that will have one or more notification badges. In here you’ll find all the annoying things Apple tries to make you do like upgrade to iCloud+ etc. On my wife’s phone she had a few badges but specifically she had one that read “resume data sync”. She said that it kept giving her an error when she had tried to click it in the past. However this time, after we had removed her old inactive phones from her iCloud account, it actually just worked when we clicked it. When clicked it prompted her to enter a passcode for one of her old iPhones (one we had just removed). Once that passcode was entered, the option to “resume data sync” disappeared and magically the Find My app started working again.

if you’ve been fiddling with the settings in the Find My app like removing and re adding the person, you may have to double check all the basics are set up again in both phones before it works, but I think this solution might actually be helpful to some people.

TLDR, remove any old unused devices from your iCloud accounts and clear any of the settings notifications where the badges appear just below the iCloud settings in the main settings menu.

Best of luck!

Found something that worked for one of our family’s phones that was having the shared location problem.

On the affected phone, go to Settings > Family > Location Sharing (May have to go into the Apple ID first on an older phone). If Automatically Share Location is turned on, turn it off for a few seconds. Mine flashed when I turned it off… but didn’t actually turn off until the second try.

After turning it back on, two phones that previously couldn’t see the phone in Find My could then see it live.

I have had the same problem. I could see my wife’s location but she could not see mine nor see the AirTags on our pets that I set up. I tried all the on/off/restart suggestion here and on other sites. While digging around trying to fix this I realized that the email I use as my Apple ID was not in my wife’s contact for me. My Apple ID is an old email that I no longer use but due to the difficulties of changing your Apple ID I leave it as is. I added that email to her contacts and then stopped sharing my location with her and reshared. She got the notification that I wanted to share right away and it works now. Unshared and then re-shared all the AirTags and she received a notification that they were shared with her. All good now. Bottom line is to make sure that the email you use for your Apple ID is in the contact for you on the phone of the person you want to share with. Then I share and reshare. I hope this works for you - have been trying to fix this for a long time.

Make sure the email you use as your Apple ID is in your contact on the phone of the person you want to share with. Then unshare and re-share and they should now get a notification that you want to share. I had to unshare and re-share all AirTags on our pets that I had set up so my wife could see them too. Something changed as we were sharing before we upgraded our phones. I could still see my wife’s location but she could not see mine. I noticed that I had her Apple ID email in her contact on my phone. My Apple ID is not the email I use anymore - it’s an ancient one but too hard to change your Apple ID. Adding my Apple ID email to my contact on her phone and resharing fixed this. Been trying to fix this for a year. I hope this works for you.

Not sure if people are still having this issue but my daughters location suddenly stopped sharing and she couldn’t access “Find my” it was greyed out. After many attempts to fix (incl some of above) I went into her setting and she had two messages one of which was to agree to iCloud’s terms & conditions which I then did & her iCloud access was regained incl her location sharing. Viola’ so frustrating

I created a sign in just so I could come on here and say that I fixed it! Come to find out, something glitched on my husband‘s phone when I made a change to family sharing. I realized that my phone was showing up for him in real time as a device, but not for me as a person. We realized that his phone was looking for my old phone. I deleted my old phone from his family sharing and stopped sharing my location with him, then started sharing again. Now everything works normally, yay!

I have this location sharing issue as well, but just with my daughter. My daughter just got an iPhone 15 and I have an iPhone 14 Pro Max. She could see my location when she clicked on my profile, but I could not. She would send me her location in a text message and I could see the location, but I could not see it under her profile. The only thing I could think of to correct this was to delete my daughter as a contact and re-add her and it corrected the issue. Weird glitch.
