The issue is not card declined (as you said) but when it comes up with card failed. I’ve gone and checked with my bank and all seems well but when I put it in on apple it doesn’t work

I’m dealing with this issue right now. It’s definitely not a bank issue. I have $60 in pending charges in limbo right now because Apple kept trying to charge my card but it kept declining. Bank said everything was fine. Even my credit card company too because I switched the payment method. I have no VPN or anything like that. Never had this happen before. But it’s very frustrating at this point I have been dealing with this all week.

  • Hey Lawrence. I am also having this problem. Apple Pay worked in the morning but stopped same day. And it’s all my cards in store and online purchases. The bank cannot help. The only possible option of those you listed could be “Address in your iTunes account does not match exactly the billing address for the card”. Because Apple Pay asks me to enter my address again before confirming the purchase. But I don’t have an iTunes account. Any ideas?

A “card declined" message means that the issuer of the credit or debit card you have on file in your iTunes account rejected a charge or account confirmation. It is not an Apple problem; Apple is just passing through the message from your issuer. There are a number of reasons the charge or verification might be declined:

  • The card is not recognized in your country
  • Insufficient balance or account in arrears
  • Account suspended for suspected fraud (not necessarily by you)
  • Error in card number
  • Wrong expiration date
  • Wrong security (CVV) code
  • You are connected through a VPN provider that does not terminate near your actual location.

You need to contact the card issuer and ask why they rejected the charge; they are the one who rejected it, not the Apple Wallet.
