Sharing a relocated sound library on external drive

Anyone know how to do this please? I have relocated my Logic Pro sound library onto an external drive which I use with Logic 10.5.1 on my MacBook Pro 2015. I now also own a Mac Mini M1 and have installed Logic 10.7 with the Essentials library. What I want to do is use the complete external library on the Mac Mini but WITHOUT losing access to it on the MBP. To be clear I do not need to run both Macs at the same time, but just plug the external drive in to whichever Mac I am using.


I haven't tried anything yet because I really don't want to lose access on the MBP while I am working on getting everything working.


Anyone know what the process is? Or is it just not possible?

I don't think it can be done. AFAIK the only way for Logic to use a sound library on an external drive is to have Logic set it up up using the "Relocate Sound Library" feature under the Sound Library menu. There isn't a way for you to "tell" Logic where your sound library is located like you can with Native Instruments.



So you would need to download all the sounds you want for the Mac Mini M1 and then relocate them to an external drive. You could certainly have both your MacBook Pro's library and the Mac Mini library on the same external drive, making sure you have a separate folder for each, but that's a risky thing to do if the external drive gets damaged, corrupted or lost.

Also The library for Logic 10.7 is going to be somewhat larger the 10.5 version so you would be missing items if you could adopt the older library. If you are looking for extra space on your Mac Mini hard drive, you might be better off moving your project folder to an external drive.
