Do I need to use the charging cable(lightening) to USB-a or USB-c with provided lightening brick for the 11ProMax ?
I am fairly certain I can charge on my iMac equipped with built in lightening plug. mainly I’m wondering about usb a or c for remote charging??? Not using iPhone 4. Usuing iPhone 11ProMax .

No Macs have ever had lightning ports.
Macs have Thunderbolt ports or USB ports of some type. USB-A, or USB-C (also used for Thunderbolt 3 and 4 on newer models).
You can connect your iPhone to either a USB-A or USB-C port on your Mac for charging. No issue with doing that. You do not absolutely have to use the included charger if you don't want to.
The iPhone 11 ProMax has a Lightning port at the bottom, and you can use a Lightning to USB-C cable to connect to the Mac and charge it.
