FCPX not working with prores raw

I'm shooting with a sony a1 raw output to a atamos ninja v+ set to prores raw. when i import the clips to fcpx they appear black unless i hover over them and when i drag a clip into the editing timeline it keeps looping render and when i try to play it, it's just black. when i export the clip to rec709 it gives me an error message and wont export.

This has been happening since December and is an FCP 10.7 bug which has not been fixed. It does not relate to the OS directly. It happens on Sonoma and Ventura (Tom reported this) but is mainly reported for Sonoma primarily I presume because those who tend to update FCP also tend to update the OS.

It is a complex bug. It is only observed on some computers and not others so some Intel Macs and M1 Mac Minis seem to be the main ones affected. It affects some ProRes Raw files and not others even from the same camera. It relates to frame size and not frame rate so, for example, 4.1K ProRes Raw files from the Nikon Z8 and Z9 are affected regardless of frame rate but not 5.3K ProRes Raw files from the same cameras.

It will take an FCP update to fix. I think it is pointless to try to go back to an earlier version of the OS. The only fix for affected computers is to install FCP 6.x. There are workarounds such as using Compressor to transcode to ProRes.

That clip plays fine on my Intel and M1 Macs, both HDR and SDR projects in FCP. It exports no problem as well to ProRes 422HQ, Rec2020 and Rec709 - running FCP 10.7 and macOs Sonoma 14.2. I have also tested my own ProRes Raw clips from a NinjaV with Nikon Z6 and Z6II as well as internal ProRes Raw clips from NIkon Z8 and have encountered no problems at all. The clips I tested are both older and brand new shot today, 23.976 fps, high and normal quality ProRes Raw 4K. So I am not seeing any problem suggesting that there may be something more going on here for people who are seeing problems - in other words it is not simply a direct problem caused by Sonoma or FCP 10.7.

Who are you talking about?

That's very disrespectful to the efforts that many users have made to solve your problem! I'm very angry!😡 I'm sure many of you downloaded the data and participated in the experiment even if you didn't actually reply.

I ask questions of the community, and I respect those who take the trouble to reply even if they don't lead to a direct solution. I think this is common courtesy as an adult. Did you grow up being taught that it's okay to be rude to respondents who don't help you? At least my parents didn't tolerate such behavior.

I meant no disrespect.

Other users ask questions and test by reproducing the problem in order to make a comprehensive judgment.

It is true that you did not face the questions honestly in the first half.

Few people get information in Japanese, but people all over the world use information in English. When translating into English myself, I am careful to clarify the subject and predicate, and whether it is in the first or second person. This is because unless it is clarified, current AI translations run the risk of being conveyed to people around the world with completely different meanings.

I think you should be more aware of the fact that vague replies have the potential to convey the message vaguely.

I take it you mean Mac Studio and an LG monitor - at least you can move forward now in any case. I had a quick look at the video you linked and it looks good in HDR on my M1 Max MBP.

One thing - you are clipping highlights in some of the shots. I don't know if this is in post or when shooting but keep an eye on those as they really stand out in HDR. The Ninja waveform or RGB parade should help to avoid overexposing. Once you do that there is no way back in post. I learnt this myself the hard way.

Nothing out of the ordinary. The only issue was I couldn't playback the file in the import window.

The files were captured with an Atomos Ninja 5+, UHD 29.97 ProRes Raw. They playback in Quicktime.

I did update the Pro Video Formats.

I have a M1 Max MacStudio on 14.3.1 running 10.7.1 FCPX. That computer plays ProRes Raw just fine. Im going to image it and apply it to my Mac Mini. Hopefully reverting back to 14.3.1 does the trick.
