Ink Cartridge error message on HP8715 printer

I installed a new HP black ink cartridge and printer says "This cartridge is an older generation cartridge that does not work in your printer..." I followed HP's troubleshooting suggestions to no avail. I reset printer to factory default settings. Still not working. I have Sonoma 14.1.2 macOS. Any help is greatly appreciated to be able to use this expensive cartridge and be able to print again. Thanks.

Ok, since I have had a number of HP printers over the years, I can personally tell you from experience, that these printers are very finicky when it comes to replacement cartridges ... and HP is not the only ones that are.

Basically, HP wants you to use only official HP cartridges. They will also want you to subscribe to their cartridge replacement service. Note; however, that is NOT required, but can be convenient if you do a lot of printing.

The bottom line is that this "warning" message comes from the cartridge itself ... or at least, it is sensed by the printer, and then, displays this message. In some cases, it will literally not allow you to print at all.

If you want to be sure that you are getting original HP cartridges, you may want to consider buying them directly from HP or any of their associated resellers.
