Problems in syncing an ipod classic with a W11 pc

I have an ipod classic which has worked once with Windows 1. However when I now attach the ipd t itunes I get the message that I do not have the necessary software to communicate wioth the ipod installed would I like to install it. When I select yes I get the error message you have chosen not contact the ipod server and go back into a loop. The ipod no longer shows in itunes. Any ideas how I get out of this please.

Have you installed iTunes from the Microsoft Store or are you using Apple Music for Windows? If so you may need the Apple Devices Preview. Alternatively you may be better off using the traditional iTunes for Windows installer that you would find here:

Putting an iPod classic into disk mode:

Hold MENU+SELECT on the iPod for about 6 seconds until it resets, then switch to PLAY+SELECT as soon as the Apple logo appears, again for about 6 seconds to put the machine in disk mode. Hold MENU+SELECT on the iPod for about 6 seconds to reset the device back to normal when done.

While you're at it you might take a look and Corrupt iPod Classic - Apple Community and check your device stats. A zero pending count is ideal.

I can't seem to put the ipod in disk mode. It brings up the apple logo but nothing after that. I have checked all my drivers and they are ok. I can see the ipod in explorer nut not the music and it shown under portable players in device manager. All seems ok apart from the connection to itunes which is still telling me I don't have the required software to communicate an when I ask it to download this I am told I have chosen not to communicate with the itunes server. I can of course still buy and download music from there.
