Just installed the latest update 17.2.1 and face ID has stopped working. I've tried to reset but apparently it can't recognise me as having a face! It just keeps saying move phone higher or lower or face out of frame. I've tried different lighting and backgrounds but I cannot get it to work. Is it my phone or is the latest update to blame?

Same problems for me on my 13 Pro. Solved it by going into Settings > Face ID & Passcode. But I had to try multiple times for the camera to recognize that my face was there (face went in and out of focus). Also, passcode for unlocking screen (should Face ID not work) is now 6 digits, instead of 4. Was still having problems activating Face ID on lock screen until, after reading a comment about screen protector, I wiped mine clean and was able to quickly enable that feature (seems even faster now). Perhaps the update has made the front and back lenses more sensitive to enable TrueDepth to function (it scans face with thousands of dots). Now, getting into my phone and apps is really quick. Me too. I have an iPhone 14 Pro. When I restore Face ID at first it didn’t work, the camara couldn’t take my face. Then I could restore but it works only some times. Most of the time it doesn’t recognize me.

13 Mini. IOS 17.2.1
Tried restarting. No joy.
Tried cleaning front cams with qtip and cloth, No joy.
Tried smacking the phone lightly a couple times (found this online), No joy.
No screen protector etc.
Started happening after I updated to the latest iOS
Finally fixed mine. No clue why it worked. Tried everything. Resetting phone, smacking it, rebooting etc etc.
Eventually I spit on my finger and wiped it across the front facing camera. I did NOT clean it off and just tried. Boom it worked.
I don't have any faith in this 'fix' but it worked for me. Hopefully it'll help someone else.
Is anyone else experiencing this. With Face ID shut off and passcode enabled, I am able to access applications that are secured with a forced face id or passcode, using the face id (which is supposed to be disabled)?
This is either 1. A huge security issue. 2. A huge software issue with iOS 17.5.1 or 3. Both
Why are ALL apps on my phone that require passcode suddenly opening with Face ID, when Face ID is off? Why can't I unlock my phone with Face ID enabled?
This is a new issue with 17.5.1 and needs to be addressed. Apple is either purposefully doing this to their phones to brute force people into buying new phones, or they have the worst programers in the world working on their products.
Same here but for me when I go to settings I can’t even create a new Face ID. I literally can’t press anything in settings under Face ID.

Purchased new iPhone 15 pro max two days ago, Face ID was not working when I set up the new iPhone. Came back home eventually it is working, but need try few time.

Pro 13 Max here...not working after the latest update. Same issues with trying to set up a new Face ID....it doesn't recognize anything when trying to get the face in the lines as requested.
