Face ID not working after update 17.2.1

Just installed the latest update 17.2.1 and face ID has stopped working. I've tried to reset but apparently it can't recognise me as having a face! It just keeps saying move phone higher or lower or face out of frame. I've tried different lighting and backgrounds but I cannot get it to work. Is it my phone or is the latest update to blame?

iPhone 13 mini, iOS 17

Same problems for me on my 13 Pro. Solved it by going into Settings > Face ID & Passcode. But I had to try multiple times for the camera to recognize that my face was there (face went in and out of focus). Also, passcode for unlocking screen (should Face ID not work) is now 6 digits, instead of 4. Was still having problems activating Face ID on lock screen until, after reading a comment about screen protector, I wiped mine clean and was able to quickly enable that feature (seems even faster now). Perhaps the update has made the front and back lenses more sensitive to enable TrueDepth to function (it scans face with thousands of dots). Now, getting into my phone and apps is really quick. Good luck!

I had the same problem with my iPhone 13 Pro Max after updating to the latest version of iOS 17. I followed basic troubleshooting, but nothing worked. Then, I came across a weird solution. Although it's not a permanent fix, it does the job. So, whenever Face ID stops working, I have to tap the front camera notch/island. It will start working for a few hours, until you do the trick again.

I went to the Apple Store after dozen of tries on my own and spending 30 minutes with customer service who I allowed to log into my phone. They ran a diagnostic and found no errors. At the store they also ran a diagnostic test, twice. First time nothing second time…front camera hardware fail, battery diminished capacity. All in all $500 of repairs to fix. I believe this is a scam to generate sales. The front camera still takes selfies. Is there a second camera. This whole thing is bull.

I just installed 17.3 today thinking that they would’ve fixed it and they didn’t and from what I’ve read on other pages people have been paying Apple over $200 to replace the true depth camera when it isn’t a bad camera it’s a glitch they caused with iOS 17.2.1

apple said to wipe the phone and start fresh and that’ll fix it. It didn’t. Still doesn’t work
