iTunes email: Problem with Payment Information

I just got an email titled "There is a problem with your payment information". I can't see anything wrong but my extra iCloud storage will be deleted if I don't correct this unknown problem within about one week. Where can I get help to sort this out? Nothing has changed.

Thanks.

Actually this is really sophisticated phishing attempt. In my mail I was advised you to go to settings, general, iTunes and App Store (and of course this option no longer exists on phones). At the bottom of the mail it then says you can update on a Mac or PC (both in blue and clickable links). And there is the phishing link.

What concerns me is that they knew my billing cycle (date and amount) allowing the algorithm to identify the storage plan - as mail correctly addressed the plan size)

Thanks for checking with Apple Support, Brian2024, but in my version of the email anyway there are no links, and all the information in the email is correct (name, amount owed, date the money is to be take out). So this makes no sense as a scam.... Plus the email address IS legit - I have had emails from this address before which are definitely from iTunes . So I think your Apple Support person has this wrong. I wonder if there has been a glitch in Apple's system and they aren't admitting to it...?

I had this same note - so the consensus here is that it’s real but an internal glitch ? My payment method isn’t set to expire until much later and today I went to check and got an update payment notice under settings?

And today is my payment date but haven’t been charged yet but again my payment method from prior months haven’t changed? So I’m legitimately confused here

I’m confused because there are several problems with the email (address, storage amount inconsistent with Apple offers, incorrect instructions for follow up), but when I hover over the links, they all lead back to Apple. There is nothing malicious in the links in the note.

So, is it just poor execution by Apple or poor execution by a Phisher?

It all makes no sense.

I’ve been getting the same emails for a couple of weeks, I’ve followed the instructions in the email but when I get to “manage payments” and “follow the prompts” there was nothing to update. Until today when there was red text telling me that my card had expired (it hasn’t). I deleted the card and then put the same card details in again and it appears to have fixed the problem

As has been noted, this is a real problem internal to Apple. I was concerned enough that I added a payment method using Paypal, and then deleted the payment method with my credit card. That worked. However, when I went to add my credit card back as a payment method, the system said there was a problem and I needed to contact support, which I did (and heard that this is a widespread issue).

Update: definitely a major glitch at Apple's end. My payment was due today. Apple bypassed BOTH cards already registered to Apple Pay (neither of which has any issues - not due to expire for years) and took the money out of the new card I added a day or two ago. Tomorrow I will try deleting and re-adding the cards that were already in the system.

@godmother63 You have misinterpreted the whois database registration record. The comlaude.com references the registrar, not the owner. They are a legitimate registrar. Use lookup.icann.org and you will see the Registrant is Apple, Inc.

The TXT record in itunes.com used to describe email sender signing (SPF) references has largely the same information as the SPF info for apple.com, and is entirely under apple.com control. The email originates from an apple.com server.
