Face ID not working for app store

Iphone 15 running ios 17.2.1. Face ID is not working in the app store and I have to manually enter my password. I also do not get the "double click" option, but rather, there is an "install button" that I must select. I've toggled app store on and off in the face id section in settings. I've restarted the phone. I've reset the accessibility features for the double click. Still won't work in app store. Face ID appears to be working everywhere else.

I followed the instructions > Toggled all off Face ID> Hard Boot (“Volume up then Volume down) > held the right side button in until the white apple appeared. > settings > face ID > turned on Face ID. Did a test on an app and was able to go back to using Face ID. Now I need to fix the poor battery drain on my 15+ iPhone. The iPhone is not even 3 months old. The phone drains like it is 3 years old. If I wanted poor phone service I would have kept my iPhone XR. This phone had a better battery life then the new iPhone.

This helped to me: go to Settings—>Face ID and turn off using Face ID (turn off all switches, including other apps, not only ITunes Store), after that restart the phone and turn on all switches again.

I’ve found a solution that’s worked for me.

  1. Go into Face ID & Passcode
  2. disable everything in ‘Use Face ID for’
  3. Reset Face ID
  4. re-enable all Face ID settings
  5. Sign out of Apple ID and sign back in again.
  6. in Apple ID, Media & Purchases select Always Require Password and require password for free downloads.

This solved my issue . It is a setting issue . But make sure when you download your first app in App Store, you have to go in manually. (That is especially true if you sign out of Apple id and sign back in again ) Then the second time you download another app it will then prompt you with the Face ID. But one step that I did add, is I signed out of Apple ID and signed back in again. I spent over three days with Apple tech and constantly looking at YouTube and reading this forum. I personally think Apple needs to do a better job understanding how these settings work. We shouldn’t have to do all the work for them. In my opinion.

Same thing is happening to me. Just upgraded to the 15ProMax yesterday and this started today.

Spoke with support and they said the following:

Aha! This is the response I got " Customers may report they are unable to use Face ID to purchase or download apps from the App Store. This issue may also affect the iTunes Store. Settings > Face ID & Passcode reflects that Use Face ID for iTunes & App Store is enabled."

"Based on these errors, please position Apple has received reports of this behavior. Those reports are under investigation.

Affected customers should be encouraged to keep their software up to date as the results of the investigation may come in the form of an update, a knowledge base article, or some combination.

I'm going to add this case to the investigation so the investigators better understand the impact.”

I’m glad to know that I’m not the only person it’s happening to and that they seem to be aware of it.
