Face ID not working for app store

Iphone 15 running ios 17.2.1. Face ID is not working in the app store and I have to manually enter my password. I also do not get the "double click" option, but rather, there is an "install button" that I must select. I've toggled app store on and off in the face id section in settings. I've restarted the phone. I've reset the accessibility features for the double click. Still won't work in app store. Face ID appears to be working everywhere else.

I just came back home from an apple store. I have the exact same issue - my Iphone 15 pro recently purchase does not allow my face id to work only on app store, all the rest works fine. We did all kind of troubleshooting in store and finally the technician said he was going to write to the engineers and for now there is nothing that can be done. I had no issues on my previous phone. we even try to reinstall completely the software. He said it might be an issue with my account itself(weird since it was working fine on my previous phone). He also said that he never saw this issue before and now I have to wait for a feedback from the engineer or return/exchange my phone

When Face ID fails to login to the App Store, there are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot:

  • Make sure that the App Store account and device are both using the same Apple ID
  • Verify that the Face ID has been set up and is enabled
  • Make sure the Face ID is correctly fitted to your face
  • Ensure there is adequate lighting to capture your face
  • Check for any dirt or smudges on the Face ID

Let me know if these resolve turn out to be helpful!

There is something wrong with your TrueDepth camera. First, look at these two articles for help. If that doesn't fix the issue, then make an appointment at the Genius Bar to have your camera issue diagnosed.

Same issue here. After 3 hours of chat and phone support (which included screen sharing), Apple has no clue what's wrong.

Things I have tried:

Changing iCloud password

Logging out/back in to Media & Purchases account

Logging out/back in to iCloud

Toggling 'Use Face ID' settings off then back on

Resetting Face ID and starting over

Resetting all phone settings

Full reset with no back up restore.

None of these steps have worked. I am never even offered the opportunity to use Face ID in the app store. I must type my annoyingly secure password every time. I can use FaceID on my iPad in the App Store without a problem, so it shouldn't be something wonky with my account. I can use FaceID for everything else on my phone, so it wouldn't seem to be hardware related.

So now I have to make a trip to the Apple Store to see what the heck is going on. LOVE IT.

I followed all the directions here and still have the same issue.

an interesting observation: once I’ve toggled them all off, restart the phone (volume up release vol down release, hold right button until apple logo appears) , and I go into settings and toggle Face ID back on for the App Store, I can visibly see the toggle switch turn green (on), turn back off and back on green again. No other button has this behavior. If I toggle the others on, they move only once and stay on. The App Store button moves back and forth. Strange and annoying.

I just upgraded to an iPhone 15 Pro Max from an iPhone 13 Pro and have run into this same issue. I've tried all the suggestions mentioned in here.

  • Ensuring device is up to date with latest iOS
  • Rebooting device with a standard Power Off
  • Rebooting device with a hard power off
  • Toggling Face ID for iTunes & App Store
  • Turning off Face ID for iTunes & App Store, rebooting device, re-enabling Face ID for iTunes & App Store
  • Resetting Face ID
  • Resetting Face ID, rebooting device, re-enabling Face ID
  • Using a different account for Media & Purchases
  • Using a different device (iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max)
  • And every variant or combination of those actions.

I think another user made this same observation, but Face ID in the App Store works fine on my M1 iPad Pro running iOS 17.2.1. As part of my upgrade, my wife took my old iPhone 13 Pro and now she has the exact same issue. The iPhone 13 (my work-issued phone) is the only iPhone device in this scenario that hasn't been newly added to either of our accounts and it exhibits this same issue.

I'm updated my wife's old iPhone 13 Pro (with a cracked screen that we're trading in) to the public beta of iOS 17.3 to see if that fixed anything, but it did not help. I feel like this problem (at least for me) didn't exist until very recently and came about out of nowhere (maybe the device swapping is a red herring), which might indicate it's a server-side issue and not a device-side issue?

Still having this issue, tried the work arounds mentioned here but still having the issue.

Signing out of Apple ID and using a friends ID, then signing out of their ID and finally signing back into my own Apple ID all on my device worked briefly,

and I was able to use Face ID again in app store for a while.

But now its gone back to forcing password for every download. Very very annoying
