Face ID not working for app store

Iphone 15 running ios 17.2.1. Face ID is not working in the app store and I have to manually enter my password. I also do not get the "double click" option, but rather, there is an "install button" that I must select. I've toggled app store on and off in the face id section in settings. I've restarted the phone. I've reset the accessibility features for the double click. Still won't work in app store. Face ID appears to be working everywhere else.

I followed all the directions here and still have the same issue.

an interesting observation: once I’ve toggled them all off, restart the phone (volume up release vol down release, hold right button until apple logo appears) , and I go into settings and toggle Face ID back on for the App Store, I can visibly see the toggle switch turn green (on), turn back off and back on green again. No other button has this behavior. If I toggle the others on, they move only once and stay on. The App Store button moves back and forth. Strange and annoying.

Same issue here. After 3 hours of chat and phone support (which included screen sharing), Apple has no clue what's wrong.

Things I have tried:

Changing iCloud password

Logging out/back in to Media & Purchases account

Logging out/back in to iCloud

Toggling 'Use Face ID' settings off then back on

Resetting Face ID and starting over

Resetting all phone settings

Full reset with no back up restore.

None of these steps have worked. I am never even offered the opportunity to use Face ID in the app store. I must type my annoyingly secure password every time. I can use FaceID on my iPad in the App Store without a problem, so it shouldn't be something wonky with my account. I can use FaceID for everything else on my phone, so it wouldn't seem to be hardware related.

So now I have to make a trip to the Apple Store to see what the heck is going on. LOVE IT.

This helped to me: go to Settings—>Face ID and turn off using Face ID (turn off all switches, including other apps, not only ITunes Store), after that restart the phone and turn on all switches again.

Completed most of the steps from

the “workaround” that people seem to be having success with. But I am not willing to log out of my Apple ID entirely, because I don’t want to have to re-enter 10 different cards again, in wallet, and have to wait for security approvals on all of them. That has happened to me before, and it’s just simply not worth the hassle. I’ll just wait till it comes and I’ll just keep manually entering my password, like many other people just picked up, a 15 pro not a very good way to treat people .. to @apple.. who are giving you business. This is obviously a hot topic, which deserves a hot fix!

I had the same issue as everyone here. After several failed attempts with Apple Support and a trip to the Apple Store, I dug deeper and found a fix that I hope will benefit everyone here still having the Face ID not working in the App Store.

While this seemed to be an issue with Face ID itself, it actually was not. I discovered the issue was in fact within wallet/Apple Pay. I noticed that when trying to make in-app purchases as well as downloading apps in the App Store it was defaulting to “Apple Pay” as the payment method, to where prior to the Face ID issue it was using one of the cards I had on file. This can be found by going to Settings > your name > Payment & Shipping.

Here, you will want to be sure the default payment method is set to a card that is setup and activated in your wallet/Apple Pay. Once my card of choice was setup, the Face ID within App Store and in-app purchases was fixed. For reference, this is on a 15 Pro Max with iOS 17.2.1.

Hope this helps!

I’ve found a solution that’s worked for me.

  1. Go into Face ID & Passcode
  2. disable everything in ‘Use Face ID for’
  3. Reset Face ID
  4. re-enable all Face ID settings
  5. Sign out of Apple ID and sign back in again.
  6. in Apple ID, Media & Purchases select Always Require Password and require password for free downloads.

Got it to work. Here's what I did (because I tried a couple of solutions that didn't work).

  1. Logged out of apple store in the apple store app
  2. Turned off all FaceID except in wallet and pay
  3. Logged into apple store in the apple store app
  4. Turned FaceID on for all apps and re-entered my password when prompted. FaceID working as expected in AppStore

Hope it works for y'all. Happy new Year

In case anyone is wondering new iphone 15 with 17.2.1 iOs

I give in. Nothing worked and I’ve spent many hours on this. Ive been through 4 pages of suggestions and “solutions” but honestly they all are pretty different. I’ve tried everything in this thread with the same result. Face ID not working in the App Store. And no official acknowledgement from Apple? Something is wrong with this. This is a fundamental feature that should be working.
