Restoring iMessages deleted by mistake

I was removing threads in iMessage on an iPad from my son, and have deleted many (but not all) old messages, and deleted the “recently deleted” since they were using a substantial amount of disk space. His account was logged out of the iPad (since I reclaimed it) and I had even logged out of my own imessage — so it should not have deleted anything on my active iCloud account. However, while a few days of data are still available, most of the history is wiped out. Is there a way to restore from an iCloud backup that is, e.g., two days old? Thanks!
