How can I disable voice message feature?

There is no option to completely remove the red icon beside the message field. However, it would be convenient to have an option to turn it off completely, as I also sometimes mistakenly start a voice recording. What you can do to lessen the chances of accidentally recording a voice message is to turn off the Raise to Listen option, or turn on the Dictation option, which will replace the red icon with a microphone. last time I checked, iOS doesn’t have a specific setting to disable voice messaging directly within iMessage. However, you can prevent accidental audio messages by tapping and holding the microphone icon to the right of the message field, then sliding your finger up to the "Cancel" option to delete the recording. This way, you can avoid sending unintentional voice messages.

This too was killing me. Maybe I have a fix? When I push te plus menu that contains additional message prions I was able to press-hold and drag the audio recording to the “more” area. Now it appears to be virtually impossible to mistakenly select that option. Let me know if anyone finds this to be a fix

To disable the voice messaging feature in iMessage on iOS 11, you can follow these steps:

To disable the red sound wave icon, press and hold in the empty part of the text message where your typed message would go. The microphone will pop up for you to dictate a message using voice to text. Record yourself saying anything then delete the message and the red sound wave icon will be replaced with the microphone.

I think the answer to this issue is, no, there's not a manual fix. Forget about microphone icons, we're talking about getting rid of that bloody annoying red audio wave at the right end of the iMessage box. This is an Apple issue and they should fix it. Surely, they can come up with an opt in or out fix.

For those trying to turn off the red audio lines, but NOT finding the microphone icon on the bottom right, I think you need to General > Settings > Keyboard - turn ON Enable Dictation. Then the mic comes back. In my case it replaced the red audio lines.

If you disable dictation the dreaded red audio lines come back.

What worked for me is enabling dictation.

Go to settings, general, keyboard and enable dictation. It was replaced by mic.

I had the same problem.

Try tapping the message field which brings up the keyboard. BELOW the keyboard on the left is the globe and on the right is the mike icon. Press and hold that mike icon and it seems to reset the message field. i.e. the red lines are replaced by the mike icon.

This worked for me.

not sure if you already found the solution but mine went away when i tap the space to “reply”, then keyboard shows up, tap the mic bottom right of the keyboard. Then the red waves went away.

I tried to debunk it by sending my wife a random voice message, red waves showed up again( by default everytime u successfully send a voice message) i just tap in reply again, tap the mic then its gone.

This came from a post below.. & it worked for me. I may have figured this out. Tap the microphone icon on the bottom right of the keyboard, underneath the “Return” button. The microphone is now listening for you to speak. Tap it again and the sound waves icon went away for me. I’m on an iPhone 13 Pro.

I am pretty sure the answer is disabling "Raise to Listen." This solved it for me.

I went to settings - general - keyboard and re-enabled dictation - this removed the red recording lines - it is replaced with the microphone icon which is easier to switch on and off.

Quick fix is to go to

settings —> messages -> toggle off Raise to listen. This seem to stop the annoying recording red waves.
