CPU overload when connected to external monitor

out of the blue I am getting CPU overload when connected to my external monitor. It just started yesterday. The only things that changed were that I hooked up a laptop cooling pad due to high heat when gaming. I also opened up the back of the laptop to clean out dust from the fans ect. Ever since then I cannot hook up my monitor without my CPU going crazy.

CPU Caterr Detected - Is Safe mode is OverPower? I'm using late 2020 macbook pro with 2.3GHz I9, AMD Radeon Pro 5500M 8 GB and the latest Sonoma Release (14.0) This morning my Macbook shut down while I was using it with my external LG monitor. When I restarted it, I found out my macbook Detected a CPU Caterr. After that, i wasn't able anymore to use my external monitor. Then I restarted with safe mode and everything seems fine now. Is this 'ok'? I can go to sleep happy this night or should I worry for what happened? Thx for your time guys

Macbook 16 inch 2019 Pro 2.3 GHz 8-Core Intel Core i9 - overheats with external monitor This has been a problem since I got this computer (purchased in 2020) but at present it is driving me mad. Whenever I plug it into an external monitor it overheats to the point where it is so slow that the curser is unusuable and typed text lags by many seconds. It's simply not possible with the monitor plugged in. I returned the laptop for a check up in 2021 but it came back fine. Apple advice was that I had to live with it. which I have tried to do, but now I am trying to use an external monitor at my girlfriend's house and it is driving me mad and I have had enough. Has anyone with the same computer had any success getting a refund? It is absolutely galling. [Re-Titled by Moderator]
