How do I resolve volume hash mismatch on Ventura 13.6.3 on iMac?

I'm randomly getting a message "Volume hash mismatch: Hash mismatch detected on disk 1s6. Mac OS should be reinstalled on this volume."

I don't know where to begin as I've never had any issues with my iMac before.

How do I do this?

I'm backed up to iCloud, but will I still lose data if I do this?

Can someone please help me?

TIA

iCloud is not a back up. It is a synchronization service. You won’t lose the information stored in iCloud if you reinstall macOS. You shouldn’t lose any data stored on your Mac, either, but you should still have a real back up before you reinstall macOS.

The "Volume Hash Mismatch" typically seems to be caused by bad memory. While performing a clean install & restore may fix the issue, but it will likely only be temporary until it becomes corrupt again. I guess the drive could also be bad, or the CPU & Logic Board. If you perform a clean install of macOS by erasing the disk and you encounter this issue again later on, then it means you have a hardware issue of some sort.

Try running the Apple Diagnostics to see if any hardware issues are detected. Unfortunately the diagnostics rarely detect problems. You can try creating & using a bootable Memtest86 USB stick for a more thorough memory test to see if there are any issues.
