New Old 6th generation iPod Nano Battery won't take a charge

I got an iPod nano 6th generation new in a sealed box, it won't take a charge. The Genius Bar told me they don't replace the batteries in this any more, no new batteries available through Apple. Is there any way to get it to take a charge, or do I just have to get a new battery. It works fine when plugged in.

Apple stop selling the iPod nano in 2017, so your iPod has to be what is known as new old stock.

This means that the battery has been sitting used for six years, so it's little surprise that it won't take a charge now and I doubt there's anything that can be done to make it take a charge.

I suggest that you act quickly to find someone who can replace the battery at a price you're happy with. If you are unsuccessful I suggest that you ask for your money back from the seller on the basis that the iPod cannot be made to work as intended (i.e. by battery alone).
