How do I sync automatically deleting email on my iPhone and computer?

I recently had to delete and reinstall my email account on my phone. Now they don't automatically delete off my phone when I delete them from my computer. How do I sync that back up? Thanks!

Thank you. I think it used to be an IMAP account. I saw that in my settings when trying to add my account back in. Is there a way for me to change it or do I need to contact my email carrier?

Try deleting the mailbox on your phone and adding it again. If you are given the option to choose POP or IMAP when adding the mailbox, make sure you select IMAP. Normally the settings will fill in automatically, but that depends on which email provider you use. If it still does not work correctly when adding it back, let me know the name of the email provider and I can help you verify the settings.

I have noticed that when setting up the mailbox, if you accidentally enter the wrong password, it will give you the option to change it to POP account. Not sure if that is what happened to you the first time.

There are 2 types of email accounts you can set up. The POP email account stores your emails on the device and when you delete from 1 device, it does not delete from the other. The IMAP email account only views the emails from a central server and when you delete from one device, it deletes it from the server and the other device will no longer see it as well.

You can check on your phone which account is set up by going to Settings > Mail > Accounts > [name of the account]. Just above the Name it will say either POP Account Information or IMAP Account Information.

In addition to changing the incoming server to imap.comcast.net, you also need to change the port number to 993. To access the port number you may have to uncheck "Automatically manage connection settings". Not sure if Comcast can force your account to use IMAP/POP. I also have Comcast and when setting up a new account it automatically sets it up as IMAP, which is what you want with all the correct settings.

It is possible that Comcast has a setting on their end that forces your account to use POP, though not sure since mine automatically uses IMAP when adding a new account. Try entering the wrong password when setting up the account. For me this gives an error that the password is incorrect, but also gives you the option of POP or IMAP on the top of the screen to choose which account type you want to set up.

Hi, didn't work. I changed the incoming server to imap.comcast.net, and it said "no password provided for Comcast. Please go to mail account settings and enter password" which doesn't make any sense because I was in mail settings adding an account and entered the correct password when I got this error.

I did have to call Comcast initially before reaching out to you, and they informed me that they had to change a setting so maybe it has something to do with that?
