IPad Calibrate Screen pops up…

I have an iPad Mini 4 with the most up to date iPadOS 15.8 that it will take. This screen just started popping up tonight and I can’t just cancel it. I have to close out then reopen app and it will pop up again. It happens while I’m on the Wayfair shopping app. Any suggestions on what to do?

My System Services, Compass Calibration has been off and I can’t get rid of my problem with both Wayfair and Zillow.

Are you using an iPad case that contains magnets of any kind? For example, a case with a screen cover that operates the auto-lock function? If so, this can seriously affect the calibration of the iPad fluxgate compass.

If used extensively indoors, the compass can lose its calibration. As an example, one model of iPad Pro that I regularly use for testing often loses compass calibration - sometimes presenting a reading as much as 90° from true.

Recalibration of the compass can help. Rather than list the steps here, this external link might be helpful with the procedure to recalibrate the iPad compass:

In addition to the information within the link, you may find that several full rotations of the iPad in each of its three axis’ (X, Y and Z) will help with recalibration.

You can also prompt recalibration the compass by moving the device in an exaggerated figure-eight motion while in a horizontal plane.

I have the same problem on an iPad 5th Generation on iPadOS 16.7.8 (20H343). It happens most on the Zillow app. It flashes to it and then reverts back to the app. I’ve tried a cold start, a hard restart, an app uninstall and reinstall.

I saw a reply where a persons aid to just complete the calibration should it show; but as I did it flashes quickly and then back, there’s no time to do that.

I wonder, can I do this manually? I tried searching by compass or calibration in settings and nothing found, then compass on iPad search, still nothing. I don’t see anything in the App Store. Where is the compass for the iPad?

If your iPad won’t turn off, this is what Apple support told me to do. Hold down the volume buttons, one at a time, then hold down the power button. I was not able to power off the way I normally do, which is holding the home button and the power button at the same time. But this worked. Then, if you have an older operating system, like I do (OS15), the only thing you can do is to delete the Walmart app. And you should be able to go to walmart.com sign into your account and do what you need to do without that prompt to calibrate appearing on your iPad

that didn’t work for me. Instead I was unable to power off in order to get the update. Luckily Apple support knew a different way to power off. Press volume up button. Press volume down button. Press & hold the power button until the power off slide appears. I had to delete the Walmart app. The forced update doesn’t work on older iOS software. Hopefully they will make an update for the older software.

I was gonna go on a trip, so I updated my ipad mini4 in a rush without backing up to 15.8.1. Huge mistake! Now every time I open shopping apps I get this pop up calibrating thing. Its constantly reopening or stuck on my screen. I have never gotten this kind of thing on my ipads starting from ipad 2 to ipad pro, ever. Its almost like a malicious hack software constantly popping up. Why is it only popping up when Im shopping? Is this some kind of security issue? Should I be worried about my info stored in my app? Can someone address this problem properly? Its extremely disturbing and worrying. Just because you stop offering the previous version, I can’t even downgrade. I feel like I’m being trapped by this. I was on the walmart app too.

On one IPad iPadOS 16.7.7 - iPad 5th gen. Calibration screen flashed on and off with D&D beyond app with it just sitting - does not get to the actual screen.

Have the other issue with Walmart on another mother’s iPad (iPad 16.7.7 - 5th gen iPad as well) with reinstalls and restarts and no difference still same issue.

Have restarted both and both issues only noticed a couple days ago.

I’m having the same problem. Calibrate screen pops up and interrupts Zillow. Tried all the suggested fixes but nothing works. (Deleted the app, reinstalled, etc, shut off iPad with volume switches, etc, even complete iPad reset.). The calibrate screen keeps popping up on Zillow app. Makes it impossible to use the app. This is clearly some sort of virus or bug. How can I disable or remove the calibration function? Apple, can you please help fix this issue?

I tried that, didn't work. The problem persists on my iPad 5th gen, with the latest OS, using the Zillow app. Its quite inconvenient, as I use Zillow multiple times/day for my work.

I've tried every fix suggested, short of throwing the iPad in the trash.

I notice several users also mention its happening on their iPad 5th gen.

Is this a "planned obsolescence" trigger?

I do not have Google Maps installed, but am still having the Calibrate Screen pop up every few seconds, using the Zillow app.

I have completely reset my iPad, starting completely over, as if a new iPad. The only app installed is Zillow. Otherwise its pure Apple.

This is an iPad 5th generation, running iPadOS version 16.7.8. (which I just updated to, while writing this response)

The update to 16.7.8 DID NOT fix the problem.
