SImple automation of patch changes not possible in Mainstage??

Hi all, I'm new to Mainstage and was very excited to find it to use in building and playing backing tracks live for a small trio I've formed of 3 singers, two of whom pay guitar and bass. As a guitarist and former audio programmer I took it for granted that simple automation of patch changes would be top of the list of features, so I could make the Markers in my Logic audio files trigger guitar rig changes hands off, as I have to frequently switch between Rhythm and Lead guitar sounds in the same song. I asked ChatGPT if this was possible and it told me YES, and even exactly how to do it. But after a day of trying it seems that it was just "Hallucinating" this idea, ...as I was too apparently (laughs to self) ! I also tried having it play back a Midi file with program change information baked in, but that didn't work either. Seems that Mainstage won't talk midi program changes to itself without a workaround of going out to an IAC driver then back in to Mainstage. I've also read of a paid plugin called "Cue Play" that possibly does what I want in some simple way. I still cannot understand why this feature is NOT within the program. Could someone please confirm that I haven't got this all sadly wrong and I'm missing something fundamental? Apart from this, Mainstage looks like an incredible program. Many thanks!

I understand your pain Paul. You can definitely add channels in MainStage that send program change messages but only at the selection of the patch or song, however you have it set up. MainStage has no timeline, that is the issue that prevents program changes from happening at certain points in the song.

MainStage would be sooooooo much more useful and powerful if it had a timeline (as in Logic Pro or any other DAW).

If I'm wrong on this, please anyone correct me as I would love to know how to do it. :)

Not having a timeline is 100% why there is no way to automate CC/PC changes. Assuming there are reasons why using Logic doesn't work for your situation (I'm sure this is Apple's suggested solution,) there are a handful of apps for controlling MIDI devices this way. My personal favorite/recommendation would be Mixet, as it saves per song, and songs can then be saved in setlist format. It's also beautifully designed and easy to use - always a plus. I believe it's intended to control outboard devices, but there's no reason you shouldn't be able to set Mainstage as your virtual midi endpoint. You could even run it on an iPad/iPhone to keep the computer running Mainstage closer to the house board and off the stage. Just a thought, best of luck!

Thank you for your suggestion of Mixet, I will take a look at it. ...All I want to do is automatically switch guitar and keyboard sounds (in MainStage patches) at certain points in the playback of my backing tracks, without using a foot pedal, and MainStage seems to have everything set up for that apart from the connection of Logic Markers in your audio files to trigger the patch changes, which seems odd to me. There must be a technical or commercial reason they've decided not to make that connection. I haven't tried the workaround someone suggested going out through the IAC driver then back in, but if that works I guess that will have to do. I haven't been able to locate any of the suggested 3rd party plugins that might help so far, but maybe I just haven't searched enough. Thanks again for the suggestion.
