Bought certified apple refurbished iphone in 2017, used it for 5 years, factory reset it yesterday, 100% unknown apple account linked to activation lock

Hello everyone,

After factory resetting my iPhone 6 Plus yesterday, which I have been using successfully for 5 years since 2017, (in that period I have also successfully factory reset it twice) I got hit with an activation lock that is associated with an Apple account that has nothing to do with any of the Apple ID's that have been used on the phone prior. It's completely anomalous.

I successfully removed the phone from MY "Icloud find my" device list, as it prompted me to do that first, it was after that, that this unknown account appeared.

Since we were able to reset it before, and since it was certified Apple refurbished, I can only assume it's connected to the icloud of the person who had it before it was refurbished. If that was the case, however, I feel as if it wouldn't have been able to have been used and reset multiple times over these 5 years.

It's been a very long time, so proof of purchase can't go any further than just a bank statement. But this shouldn't have happened in the first place, because it's my understanding it would have had to have been in somebody else's hands for this to have occurred.

Is it possible for one phone to be linked to multiple apple Id's at the same time in the first place? Is it possible that it's a glitch? I can't find a similar case to this one on the internet, as most people aren't able to ever set up and use the phone in the first place, let alone use it for 5 years and reset it twice.

I'd appreciate a response because honestly, it's a bit disturbing.

Thank you.

If you bought it refurbished at the Apple store, then take the purchase receipt with yo u to the Apple store and see what they can do for you.
