One of the screens said to look in a desktop folder but that my desktop documents are now on iCloud. I don't want them there. I want them on my MacBook desktop as they were before.

Did you turn off Desktop and Documents under iCloud Drive in your settings? If so, then your desktop files are accessible in the iCloud Drive heading under Finder. Drag your files back to your desktop.

Thank you. I recall having done something similar last year. It was a little scary to see the warning about loosing the content from the iCloud desktop, but I dragged all the files from the iCloud desktop folder to the MacBook Pro desktop and Boom! Done!
My desktop became empty except for the HD icon. How do I get the files to show on my desktop again?
