Moving from iTunes to Music on new computer- iPhone stuck syncing.....

Mac Pro 3.3 GHz 12-Core Intel Xeon W is the new computer running Sonoma 14.2.1

iPhone 13 Pro Max is the phone.

With the new iOS (17.2.1), I can no longer use iTunes and must sync with Music. Transferred my entire music library to the new computer. Selected the Library and went to "iTunes Library.itl" file when selecting via Music which is unlike iTunes where you would select your device. It has been showing the following "Syncing (step 2 of 4) - Preparing to sync" for multiple hours.

Cable is new (USB-C to Lightening) so that is not the issue. Was able to backup the iPhone initially. Rebooted both iPhone and Computer.

What gives? Thanks in advance.

While it was nice to be told basic info, I finally found the thread to solve this issue. Bottom line, you need setup your sync and the open ACTIVITY MONITOR and force quit MDCrashReportTool. Sync done it two minutes!!!

Hope this helps someone and Apple gets it stuff together here.

Here is another path to the iTunes library .itl database file :
home folder library > application support > com.apple.application > imported library .

? If You're referring to the iTunes Music Library ( not the Apple Music Subscription Library) , you would be syncing manually using the Finder , it can be automatic only with a music subscription .
There is a status bar at the bottom of the sidebar … updating cloud library .
If over Wi-Fi … eject your device afterwards .

If you need to double check your sync settings , here's a link :

Use Finder to sync devices with your Mac :

Thank you. YES, the iTunes (?- since iTunes no longer exists......) Music Library (I am NOT using Apple Music). In other words, I have a huge personal library of mp3s that I either purchased or made myself.

So you are saying that I need to find another path to my Music Library? I thought that you hold down the OPTION key and then select the path to the library. As I stated, this was easy in iTunes as you selected your device (I have several from an iPad, iTouch/iPod, to my iPhone- each of which had its own folder) and then iTunes would open and you would sync with no issues.

With the Music application, this does not work. To see the library of mp3s, you need to select the .itl file NOT the device folder that then has within it Music, Movies, etc.

I am also NOT using iCloud to sync. All music files are stored locally on the computer and syncing with iCloud is turned on only for CONTACTS. I am not using Wi-Fi to sync either. Here's a screenshot of what I see.

Thanks for the above. I AM using FINDER for syncing. As I stated, I am aware that iTunes was killed off by the start of macOS 10.15 (Catalina). The 1 TB drive is empty as this is a new computer. I am using FINDER to sync and the MUSIC application to see my mp3s that are on the computer in a folder that MUSIC can see and play with no issues....
