Very slow downloading of any applications from the App Store

I’ll match your 35 years with my 50 years as an engineer and computer scientist. Neither of our experience is worth a darn on issues like this.

Yes, there are many variables, and the least likely is Apple’s content servers and distributed download servers, which can handle millions of downloads of operating systems an hour. My last iOS update download to my computer, of 8 GB, took well under a minute. The more likely reasons for throttling are on the user’s network, their antivirus and firewalls, their Wi-Fi speeds, their internet connection speeds, whether they use VPN (which cuts download speeds by a factor of 4), and many other factors, none of them on Apple’s side.

I experienced the same thing, despite my internet speed of 300Mbps apps download at 50-110mbps only, and If I pause the download and run a speed test it shows up as 290Mbps, I'm using iPhone 15, I reset my phone thought it has some issue but it's still the same. I am not using any VPN, I sat beside the router with wifi6 (speedtest shows 300Mbps so understand that its a wifi or isp issue).

I have the same problem on my iPAD Air 5th, 17.4.1. On Thursday, I turned on Developer mode as Apple help article says, to input sandbox data, it's all worked fine.

And on the Friday, May 10th tadaaa: I have no option to download any app from Appstore/Testflight, the download is eternally on start.

I did everything besides flushing device to the factory condition.

When I turn on any VPN the download is happening as usual. Seems this is country+provider issue no one going to fix.

I found similar issues reported since 2021, so draw your own conclusions.

Chat support literally said I have to call at my own expense to other country and speak in Spanish, because they can't schedule call back for me to resolve the issue. I can buy device, but I can't have a support here.

All of my work with Testflight builds is stuck for 2 days.

SELFUPDATE 20 mins later: HAH! I realized 17.5 is standing ready for install and all fixed magically after update! This stucked OS installation prevented all Appstore/Testflight downloads. Whoa.

Definitely Apple side issue.

Bet they don't distribute the apps from each continent servers but from a centralized one, so top isp speeds will NEVER be hit abroad.

Im never getting above 10% my ISP speed from the appstore... had to check from router's web, since this OS refuses giving you info. Everything else flies at max speed available.

WRONG. They distribute using a worldwide 3rd party network distribution provider (Akamai). And they have several distributed server sites for their own servers, including Ireland, Australia, Japan and China.

Then why aren’t there millions of complaints from the 1 BILLION iPhone users? There is a problem with your phone, your router, or your network connection. My app store downloads take a few seconds over my gigabit FIOS connection. And I get a dozen or more app updates a day among my 300 apps.

There is nothing wrong with the App Store. If there was there would be millions of complaints from the 1 BILLION iPhone users. There is a problem with your phone.

As a start: Do you use VPN? If so, delete the VPN profile in Settings/General/VPN & Device Management/VPN. Don't just turn it off; delete the profile.

Never happened in my entire list of Galaxy devices.

600 MB/s downloading from any other device.... 400 kbps from Iphone 15 PM.

in fact it NEVER downloaded a thing from the appstore at full available network speed.

Im quite sure is an optimization issue as 99% of people do not care if an app downloads slowly, but I care and check from another app how fast things are going, and are going at said speeds. SLOW

Really? No, it is definitely a problem with your router or some garbage you have installed on your phone, such as VPN, an antivirus, or some app that claims to speed up your phone. If it was definitely an Apple bug you would see thousands or millions of complaints about it.

So first, delete any junk apps that I have described from your phone and restart it (for VPN, delete the profile, don’t just turn it off.

Next, go to a friend’s, Starbucks or equivalent and see if you have the same problem on a different Wi-Fi network.

Since the End of July 2024, the APP STORE Downloads, or Updates are superslow on Wifi, but pretty normal on LTE (Cellular).

This situation is ONLY VALID on downloads or updates from "App Store thru Wifi." It is very important to understand this.

All the other stuff on the internet works just fine both on Wifi, or Cellular (4G/LTE)

For the past few days, App Store doesn't like to work with WIFI Connection.. It Still Loves the Cellular, though :)

Very weird issue...

Updating to iOS 17.6.1 did not resolve this issue.

I’m on an iPhone 12 Pro Max iOS 17.5.1 & in the last day or two ALL of my downloads from the App Store are not just running VERY slowly, but they are displaying the download time in mins & seconds! This is even happening w apps I have previously downloaded but deleted & am attempting to redownload. Needless to say, this is VERY upsetting! 😡

I faced the same issue in my home, with my mac and my iphone.

when I went to office, everything went smoothly.

At home in the middle of the download, I switched my wireless network to a MiFi device (different ISP) and everything finished downloading in seconds.

I don’t know what is the issue, but just switching mi wifi to a different network solved the issue for me.

Yes, and those thousands and millions (which I doubt) are all using either a “helper” app or VPN, or have very slow Wi-Fi or an obsolete router.

And it is still a tiny percentage of 1.5 BILLION.

Apple didn’t slow down downloading new apps at all, so they clearly didn’t do it intentionally. The download speed has only one variable: The speed of your internet connection.
