Hackers got into my bank app

My husband and I have been worried our iPhones have been hacked and today we found out they compromised my debit card. Through my bank app I was ask to activate a new debit card and that debit card was not issued by the bank. I was told over the phone by a real bank representative that they would suspend my card and not issue another until we fixed the “hack” in my phone as it seems to be just my phone that is compromised. My question at this time is how do I get this resolved? Can someone offer any assistance on what to do next? Just point me in the right direction please. Thank you for any guidance in this messed up situation

Your phones have not been hacked. That is nearly impossible, and where it is possible costs thousands of dollars to attack one phone.

Far more likely:

  1. Your card information was compromised the old fashioned way. Like using a physical card at a restaurant where they take it in the back. Anyone can then write down everything they need to use your card. Name, number and security code.
  2. Someone hacked into your Apple account. That is accomplished by knowing, or guessing both your Apple ID and password. With that information, a person can login to your account from virtually any other device and see your photos, emails, texts, bank card attached to your account, and more.

In your iPhone, go to Settings > your name at the top. Scroll down. Do you see any devices listed you don't recognize?

Hello, so the request to issue a new debit card was an imposter? Unfortunately hackers are getting smarter, I’ve had similar issues. I’d recommend getting an Apple Gift card for Apple purchases, then vender specific gift cards for other places that you make purchases. I would not use a debit card on any computer device, so much info can be saved, if you ever get compromised, it’s very difficult. Change passwords (I’m sure you have heard that 100 times), you may want to delete them reinstall the bank app, and change user ID and account for the bank. When you use your debit card at a brick and mortar store, request to use it as a charge card instead of debit. It’s easier for the bank to chargeback venders for credit vs charge, no difference in cost to you. I don’t put credit card numbers in apps either. If you are in a store, it’s not much difficulty to use the card vs an app. Note that some places won’t accept all gift cards, even if they accept the same regular credit card.

Backup photos, and needed documents, restore device, then add apps back as new (not from backup) without your debit card number added for payments (a new install) Keep an eye on future charges, including those on gift cards. Good Luck.
