iOS 17.2.1 Charging Issues

I recently updated my iPhone 14 Pro Max to the iOS 17.2.1 software. Since, my iPhone will not charge unless I restart it. I have tried different chargers (Apple official) and wireless charging. Nothing!!! All I could find is someone with an iPhone 11 who said to turn off optimize battery charging. I’m trying this and hope it works. My next step is to an Apple Store. Is anyone else having this issue? It seems to be a big issue. Is Apple planning to fix this?

I have also been waiting for update 17.3 hoping that would provide a fix but in the meantime i was doing hard resets before charging and had optimised battery charging turned off . Now after a few cycles of doing that i have optimised turned on again and it now seems to be charging normally without the hard reset both when connected to my mac and when charging wirelessly , Iphone 11 by the way .

My wife and I have the same issue. I have an iPhone 11 and she has the 14. Figured it was because my phone is old but hers is new. We plug them in over night to wake up to 20-30% battery. Seems to charge fine during the day which is frustrating when you’re on the go. Started happening after 17.2.1 update. Apple please fix this! Turned off optimize battery charging and clean energy charging to see if that helps. Although I do like the concept of those features, not worth the charging issues

I am experiencing this issue. I made a less than 24 hr new iPhone 15 exchange for another one for this issue. After the IOS 17.2.1 update both my iPhone 11, iPhone 14 (work), and new iPhone 15 (personal that replaced 11 twice replaced). Did all troubleshooting: macbook update and restore at apple store, soft reset, hard reset (volume up, volume down, hold power while sliding off and release at apple logo), full back up and factory reset, even trade in brand new iPhone 15 for another new iPhone 15. The newest one did charge for a brief time both port and wireless, but once it finished back up is back to not detecting any charges. Yet device can notify asking to open phone to use usbc accessory detection if plugging into a computer. Ive tried everything and today 11/17/2024 in the apple store the representative said a influx of iPhone 15 line and IOS 17.2.1 software issues. I personally am lost now. Got the 14 fixed but will not be able to use my iPhone 15 (personal) at all since it won’t charge. Was your issue resolved?

My IPhone 14 Pro Max would always charge with MagSafe charger but not with any of the cords and chargers I had with me. I got home from a work trip tried the old school cube style charger with USB-A and those didn’t work, plugged usb-c cable into my MacBook Pro it started to charge then. If I use a big apple charging brick with USB-C cable to lighting it works to charge.

Re: Possible solution

Good thing I am a borderline hoarder. I kept my charger from my old iPhone 6. It’s working so far in charging my phone. You all remember that small block Apple use to provide with the charging cable. Well, that’s what I am using along with the standard usb charging cable. Somehow, the usb-C charging cables and block are not working with my 14 pro max. I hope this helps someone. Also, I am still planning to go to the Apple Store for a solution because this is ridiculous. I paid to much money for my Apple devices to come up with a solution on my own because of their mistakes.

Wow I am shocked after reading your review. The exact same thing is happening on my Iphone 13 which stopped overnight at 44% and only works once with each charging cable. So I know I can use each cable the first time only once. My only remedy now is a micro-usb cable with lighting adaptator which seems to be working so far after a week.

Went to Apple they inspected and noticed the bug with cables. They said there is nothing they can do except changing the charging port even though it works fine with my other micro usb cable but not my usb-c ones.

The worse is that my warranty and coverage expired one month ago

I have a similar issue. I had my iPhone 14 on a charger as I do ever night. A Belkin magsafe boost wireless charging pad. In the morning I had a notification for software update, 17.2.1, so I updated. All was fine, and again that evening I put my phone on the charge but this morning when I woke is was at 16%. I noticed that it was connecting and disconnecting but percentage never increased. I have a second identical charger and tried it, same thing. I then tried removing my otterbox case, and tried it straight on the phone, still the same. Finally I plugged a charge cable into the port and it charges. I have contacted apple support, explained all of this, they suggested a hard reset, I have since done that and still no change, so I am going to speak again with them, and if I get it sorted I will let you all know.
