After reading an email in my inbox, I delete it and it goes to the Bin. I have noticed that I can't retrieve any older emails from the Bin when needed, to view previous conversations, quotations etc. I clean up my email once a year, so there should be hundreds or thousands of emails in the Bin. From last years business I have 17 emails in the Bin. Does anybody have any idea where these emails are going and can they be retrieved ?
I would start by checking Mail >> Setting >> Account
How have your configured Mail to keep deleted e-mail ?

Is the e-mail account using IMAP Protocol ?
IMAP protocol will reflect back ( mirror ) to Mail application what is appearing on the e-mail servers
Log into the Web Site Portal of this e-mail Account
Are the missing e-mail appearing in Bin
Is the account using the POP protocol ?
If yes, POP protocol removes the e-mail from the Server and placing them effectively Only on the computer
Should this be the case and they are Not in Bin - they are gone
Then you maybe able to retrieve them should you have an Updated and Current Time Machine Backup
Backup disks you can use with Time Machine

And I am sorry, but if you think you may be going to need to check back on an e-mail, why put it in the bin? It is like you receive a letter that you may want to review later - do it put it in the trash?
It is not like you can only have the inbox or the bin.
Just create one or more mailboxes and park things there.
