After charging it at night the touchscreen didn't respond at all.
Genius Bar provided the only solution of replacing the screen. That didn't work - no big surprise.
They did mention several people with the latest iOS update + model had the same problem.
I don't have a recent backup (for years). So what to do? Data recovery companies are expensive...

Just posting this to help somebody out with the same issue.
Tenorshare ReiBoot software fixed the issue in 15 min (I'm not affiliated with them in anyway btw).
I do think it's a shame Apple just sends you on your way with a (very new) broken iPhone, without mentioning any reasonable alternatives / tips apart from very expensive data recovery companies.
They should be able to restore a previous iOS / firmware version themselves.
But well. You should be lucky to even own an iPhone or whatever.
