Canon CR3 RAW files. no preview in Monterey 12.7.2

hi old topics were ambiguous so asking again.

my camera is listed on the apple supported cameras (Canon R6MII) I am in Monterey 12.7.2 Mac Pro

I cannot see the preview icon and all my older cameras I can.

does Monterey support these files -this is as far as I can go on my old desktop.

and if it DOES support how can I fix? my finder icon preview is checked and so is Adv security data on SW upgrade. see attached (canon CR3 and older Nikon RAW) also XMP files used to only be created when I edited a RAW file, now they show up for all RAW files before I edit. any help appreciated. I need to add that apple phone support is virtually useless. they are not familiar with anything, cannot troubleshoot or answer any question. never used to be this way.

Mac Pro, macOS 12.7

There is no Canon R6 MII entry in the camera raw list for macOS Monterey. The Canon M6 MII is supported on Monterey and the R6 MII support is currently available in macOS Ventura (13.6.3) and later. Apple does not do retroactive camera raw updates to older operating systems, so it will not be available for Monterey.

What you can do is download Adobe's DNG converter, create a DNG folder, and place your raw R6 MII images in that folder. Then you launch the Adobe app and tell it not to convert any images whose names already exist as DNG images. It will convert the R6 MII CR3 to DNG which is readily visible in the Finder, Quick Look, and Preview.

Alternatively, you can download the free XnViewMP app and it will show image thumbnails for the R6 MII without any Adobe conversion necessary.

Screen shot from XnViewMP v1.6.3 on macOS Sonoma 14.2.1:

Either of these third-party approaches allow you to view R6 MII raw images on your Mac with Monterey.

thanks. I mis spoke. the canon R6MII is not currently listed, but why? usually a couple of months to add a camera to Apple. I wondered if you can clarify something. If a camera is supported by adobe (PS) and I can Open the files and edit them, exactly what does the "apple supported camera list" mean.. obviously it include the finder preview icon feature but what else?

here's the odd thing. I had a canon R5 in 12/21 that utilizes CR3 files and I could see the preview icon. now presently cannot view ANY CR3 preview icons... I am not sure which operating system I was on but usually features do not disappear as you upgrade...(ignore that date it was 12/21). thank you for your help

thanks for info on DNG converter it is a lot of extra work.
