Not being allowed to move photos to folders

After I make a folder in Photos, I grap a group of photos and move them to the folder. When I do this, a waring pops up and says something like "You have 29 unsaved photos that need to be saved before continuing. Please try again after saving the photos."

How do I save a photo? Ive never heard of that.

These photos have been in Photos for a long time and I have not been moving or deleting them for it be processing anything. When I try the same action a day or two later it still has the same pop up. Ive tried making new folders and still get the same.

Any help much appreciated. Thank you

By any chance, have the photos you are trying to add to an album been shared with you? Shared photos are not imported to your Photos Library, just shown by Photos in the sidebar.

Before you can add them to an album, you have to save them to Photos.

In the sidebar, go the album "Shared with you".
Then use the filter at the right border of the window and set it to "unsaved items".
Now you can see which items need saving. Select them all and ctrl-click the selection, then use the command "Save"
Switch the filter back to "Saved items". Select the photos you want to add to your album and ctrl-click them, use the command "Add to Album":

In Photos, folders do not contain photographs. Only albums can contain images. Folders can contain albums and nested folders. So create an album for your images.
