14.3 Mail.app - Corrupted/Garbled Text When Composing Messages

After updating to 14.3, I've noticed Mail.app messages (replies or new) will begin garbling and corrupting text display while you're writing (similar to writing in this field here). Usually when you've written a few paragraphs, the prior (or even current) text will garble with previous content, moving it around, erasing some, or even overlaying it with a previous paragraph.

Importantly, the text itself is not changed, as can be seen if you just ignore it and keep typing. However, if you stop and try to select the text, it cannot be grabbed, since it's not really there. It is a visual corruption only, but when you don't know what you have written, it's hard to confirm what's, well, written.

I've restarted, as well as reinstalled the OS with no change.

This is while Mail is in fullscreen and the message is using split-screen.

There clearly seems to be a text display bug (graphics or WebKit perhaps), but I'm trying to determine if it's just me or others are noticing it as well. I will also file a bug (Feedback Assistant) on the issue.

Upgrade to MacOS 14.3.1.

It should fix the problem, which was in WebKit. The software update explicitly says it is a fix to this erratic display problem when editing. In addition to Apple Mail, this was occurring in other apps that use WebKit.

It's a bit scary to see something like this with a brand new computer, and wonder if something is wrong with the new M3 Pro Apple Silicon hardware. I certainly did, until I saw in this forum that it was happening to many different computers, including ones with Intel processors.

This display issue when editing is a documented software bug that 14.3.1 should fix.

I have the same problem - so annoying, trying to write detailed emails to clients and it's basically copy and pasting bit of text from further up the email over what I have already written. Currently mail is not fit for purpose - it's quite a fundamental operational need using mail isn't it. Get it sorted Apple! Using MacBook Air with M1 chip and Sonoma 14.2.1

Same here. MacBook Air M1 2020. Upon updating to Sonoma 14.3 (which I had to do because suddenly Netflix wouldn't work unless I did), Mail and Safari both keep "flashing" several lines of text that are what I typed already. It will display the "wrong" text on both sides of the cursor, but it hasn't *really* replaced the text. If I get the screen to resize or otherwise "disrupt" the display it will improve. It's even happening right now in a chatsupport.apple.com window.

At the same time, about 50% of the time I'm trying to visit websites, Safari says "can't display page because you aren't connected to the internet" even though I am connected to the internet. Another person right next to me on a different brand of computer is having no issues.

I hope someone also looks into what's going on between Apple and Netflix that FORCES people to update their OS to the latest version when they aren't even very far behind. Users should have the option of waiting until an OS update has been out for awhile before updating their OS.

Yes, I thought it may be an isolated incident. Not only did it persist in Sonoma (Macbook Air M2) but also on my iPhone 15 version 17.4.

It is past annoying. As the author above notes, three to four paragraphs in and then your text becomes corrupted, you backspace, and it may or may not change back to a few past sentences, and you must start the text over again. Then, it will begin to corrupt again; you either backspace or hit the spacebar, and it is anyone's guesses how much-written text you lose. 1. Could it have something to do with autocorrect because it is happening in the Mail App on MacBook and iPhone? 2. Is anyone using a 3rd party grammar checker, like Grammarly? The bottom line is that its frequency and annoyance need immediate remediation. Has anyone solved this issue?

Identical garbled Apple Mail problem in 14.3, using a late 2021 M1 MacBook Pro. Note that I'm writing this more than 2 weeks after this issue was first reported, and still NO response from Apple. (Don't they monitor these community forums anymore?) I'm one of hundreds reporting this snafu, which has made one of the most fundamental reasons we have computers -- communicating by email -- a daily battle. Apple, if you're actually reading this, please remember that email is an essential way your customers do business. If you don't want us to take our business elsewhere, fix this already.

Well, downloaded the latest MacOS 14.3.1 on my wife's 27" iMac and my Macbook Pro 14" w/ M1 and the problem with the 'garbled text' rose its ugly head AGAIN. My wife said it was OK, on her machine, until I installed the latest update. So, I have no idea what that means, other than the problem still exists!! Fix this Apple, PLEASE!!! It's very annoying.

It is validating to find this thread and discover that I'm not alone and my computer is not crazy...only the software update to Sonoma is. I can't believe they haven't fixed this problem yet?!!!??? I clicked the update tonight button and pray that this will solve the issue b/c there are no app updates available for mail that I can find.

If anyone knows if there is a patch for this as of 2/25/24, please reply. The other thing that started after Sonoma update is when I'm in word, I will be typing and all of a sudden it won't let me type and the computer beeps with every keystroke, WTF Apple!!!??? I tried to disable sticky under accessibility but it was already disabled.
