my Mail app randomly started telling me my password was wrong for my associated hotmail account, I deleted the account and went to re install it and it won’t work, it just keeps saying unable to.
I followed the instructions to make it work but it’s not working, and now all my contacts have lost their names for some reason! It’s very frustrating and I have no idea what’s going on.

Sounds like you need to get in touch with hotmail support or look at their help forum, since they can't verify your account.
Same for me. My Hotmail works on the outlook app on iPhone, but it doesn’t work on the Mail app on iPhone. Started since 1-2 days ago, the Mail app keeps prompting me to type in password. Even I typed it in, it still asks me. I confirm the password is correct because I can log in to my hotmail through the outlook app and on webpage. So, it’s the Mail app problem. I tried deleting the account, restarted my iPhone and adding the account again. Now I get “unable to verify account” error prompt.
I am having the same probably. Mail app suddenly started constantly asking for a PW. Hotmail works fine on other devices. No idea what is going on.
I have exact same problem. Outlook app works fine. Mail app is empty now. No sync with the MS server anymore.
Syncing hotmail with iPhone.
