Safari on iPad hangs when using external keyboard (iOS 17.3)

Same… freezes using Safari, DuckDuckGo, Firefox and Chrome. iPad Pro 12.9 w/Apple Magic Keyboard.

Works ok w/o keyboard.

A few other apps load slowly when the keyboard is attached.

Frustrating issue.

The only problem with that hypothesis, Mike, is that this problem is also affecting those of us who are using Magic Keyboards, which don’t use Bluetooth to connect. But it’s great that this community has done a lot of testing with so many keyboards. All this valuable feedback will hopefully help Apple’s software engineers generate a solution sooner.

Same. I’ve tried all the “fixes” (cleared cache, restarted, forced restart, cleared website data). My iPhone Safari works and the iPad Safari works when not attached to the Apple keyboard. This has been extremely frustrating. iOS 17.3.1 did NOT fix it!

I have an iPad Air 5th Gen 10.9” with the Apple Magic KB. Both beautiful products work seamlessly together. But after the IOS 17.3 update, Safari started to weird out. Many web sites, but not all, freeze when searching, or refuse to resolve even when given a fully qualified name. Safari often bails out after a long pause, or needs a forced close.

Another post mentioned it happening with other kb’s, not just Apple; but note no issues with the touch KB or with Siri. I tried both, no external KB and Siri. Safari worked normally. Unlike others, I had no problems with Firefox Focus, Edge or Chrome.

Not a crisis, but I like all the improvements in Safari as well as the speed, so I hope the next update fixes what I imagine is a keyboard driver issue.

Same with me. Another oddity, although it occurred with previous updates, is the inability to comment on Instagram when the smart keyboard is attached. I hit the comment button but the box to comment in just disappears. Originally thought it was an Instagram issue so deleted and reinstalled and finally just used my iphone. Yesterday I had detached the keyboard so I could use Safari and suddenly realized that the commenting in Instagram was fine.

Yes. Immediately after upgrade to 17.3.1 there was still no relief but then started working well after a few days until it stopped again 2 days ago. No problem using CHROME with the smart keyboard but Safari is unusable

Apple knows there isn a problem related to the keyboard, I talked with a senior support guy today. He was the one who identified my problem as being related to the keyboard.

I have the same issue however now it is starting to expand to other APP then web browsers. I had this freezing up on me also with Maps, no big deal as anyone does disconnect from the Keyboard restart Maps after closing and put in the address again.

however what just really got me is I spend about 1 h composing an email attaching documents etc. to experience the same issue with the APP Microsoft Outlook. This is now disturbing as it impacts also not only APPs that we use for “fun” it starts to effect our productivity APPs.

Could someone who has insides “Apple internal” please comment here 1. Acknowledging the problem and 2. When are you guys expected to fix this issue. PLEASE

It's astonishingly poor - I can't understand why all the iOS You Tubers seem to have ignored this issue completely. I have had to stop using my iPad Pro with Magic Keyboard and now use my Mac which is highly inconvenient.

How on earth could Apple testing have dropped the ball massively here. 😡

Thanks so much for alerting them. As you know, this is a major problem for those of us who are committed to Apple’s vision for the iPad as a reasonable laptop replacement.

As it stands, I’ve reluctantly gone back to using my venerable MacBook Pro until Apple acknowledges and fixes the problem. I hope this occurs very soon, as I didn’t invest in an M1 iPad Pro to watch Netflix!

This is getting incredibly infuriating, this issue has rendered the keyboard useless and dramatically increase my workload. I am constantly having to restart the iPad or take it out of the keyboard and having to type with the screen keyboard instead.

This is sold as a professional device, but I’m seeing an amateur response.

I use an iPad and Apply magic Keyboard. When in the previous iPadOS version, I still used it normally when connecting the iPad to an external keyboard.
But from iPadOS version 17.3, every time I connect the iPad to an external keyboard, Apple Note, Safari, gmail, Microsoft office, and many other applications freeze when using the external keyboard.
I'm really angry about this, my work depends entirely on the iPad, to write this line of text I had to disconnect the iPad from the Apple magickeyboard and use the iPad's virtual keyboard.

I updated to iPadOS version 17.3.1, and the situation still does not improve on Apple Note and AppStore, the application freeze still occurs when I use an external keyboard connected to the iPad. But it seems that on Safari there is no more application freezing, I'm not sure about this, still need to check further

Regrettably my iPad has reverted to freezing using iPadOS 17.3.1, as with iPadOS 17.3.

For me the brief glimmer of normal working lasted a few hours.

Returned to a near useless internet browser experience on my iPadPro.
