Microsoft Exchange on my iPhone keeps asking for a password

I've seen several solutions posted here that I had already tried without success. Turns out one needs to do just a bit of translation between Microsoft nomenclature and that used in iOS.

Microsoft advises making sure that the account is set for "anonymous authentication" but those words appear nowhere in IOS. BUT I tried the following and it worked.

In iOS go to Settings>Mail>Accounts>Exchange and slide the SSL button to the left to make sure it is turned off.

Q.E.D.

As I’ve seen a lot of posts about this today I suspect it is a problem on Microsoft’s servers. See if you can contact Microsoft support.

This is a Microsoft problem, not an iPhone or Apple problem.

With one possible caveat: If you use VPN on your iOS device that can break networks. So if you do use VPN go to Settings/General/VPN & Device Management/VPN and tap on and delete the VPN profile.

Oddly enough, I'm having the same problem at my end, with the only difference being all is good my iphone (XS) but not with my older ipad 4 Mail app.

Will try deleting that account on the ipad and creating a new one with identical specifics. I seem to remember a problem like this some 5 - 10 years ago as well and kind of remember being left with creating a new account as a solution without reason.

Yes, apparently it started around the same time Microsoft changed their login and password requirements. Check Microsoft’s support center for how to resolve this. It is a Microsoft issue, not an Apple issue.

I’ve been using 2FA several years and I’ve generated an application password for the iPhone to get my emails, contacts and calendar synced. The problem is that iOS keeps asking the exchange password few times every day. Every time only way to get the syncing fixed is to generate a new application password, but after few hours the same issue happens again.

I agree that there could be something that Microsoft has changed, but I haven’t found any information about this. It also seems that this issue only occurs on iOS devices, not on Androids.

I now have I-phone 15 pro max 17 point whatever. This Microsoft Exchange error about the password being incorrect issue has plagued me since I-phone 4s. The password is not incorrect and the email still works even when I hit cancel after a dozen times. I'm going to try the outlook option, but I am pretty sure I have been down that rabbit hole.

Your email stays on the Hotmail server somewhere and comes right back as soon as you redo the Mail settings

The built-in Mail app is the icon that says “Mail” on your home page. Many Exchange users instead use the Outlook app on their iPhones that you can download from the App Store.

This is happening to me too! The last 36 hours. It says I need to enter the exchange password, and when I do it says the password is incorrect.

I have reset password, restarted phone etc. after restarting the phone it didn’t do it for approx 12 hours but I woke up and it was doing it. It asked me 4 times for the password and kept saying it’s incorrectly and on the 5th time I hasn’t hit enter and it disappeared and all my emails came through.

It is driving me insane!

The password is correct (I even I changed it) and I can log in using that password on any other platform other than the apple mail app. This is happening with a hotmail email address.

Notes, Contacts, Reminders, and Calendars sync to the same server as your email for an Exchange account, so any problem with the account will affect all services that sync to Exchange.

To see, go to Settings/Mail/Accounts and tap on the Exchange account; you will see switches for syncing these other data types.

I have the same phone setup as you. When you go into settings, at the top you see a box with your name. Below that are boxes or groupings of apps. In the fifth grouping, Mail is the second item, below Passwords.
