Payment card added to Apple Pay but doesn't appear in wallet

I already have 2 payment cards in my wallet which work fine.

When I go to my Wallet and try to add a third bank card (CCF in France), everything seems to progress normally except at the end it says "Card could not be added to wallet". I then have two options: try again or retry later. If I say try again, I get the message "Card added". But the card never shows up in the wallet so I have no way to choose it for a payment.

If I go to Settings -> Apple ID and click on the device (iPhone) I see the card with the other 2 cards at the bottom of the page.

I tried to:

  • delete all the cards and re-add them. It worked for the 2 cards except the CCF card.
  • un-install Apple wallet, restart the iPhone, re-install Apple wallet, didn't work.
  • disconnect from my Apple account, which deleted all the cards, restart the iPhone and reconnect to Apple ID, add the cards again, still didn't work for the CCF card (worked for the other 2).
  • go to iCloud online -> Settings -> Apple ID -> iPhone and "Remove Items" under Wallet and Apple Pay. The 3 cards were removed but when adding them back it still didn't work.

The only thing which is different for the CCF card is that I already had this card in my wallet and it worked well, but it expired and the new card has the same number (only expiration date changed)...???

My iPhone X is on IOS version 16.7.4

Any help appreciated

That’s what I was afraid of. I just wasn’t sure what iOS 16.7.5 displayed. The next thing to try is contacting the bank and see if they can reprovision the card. Provisioning is the state the card needs to be in to add the card to the Wallet app. It sounds like the card is stuck somewhere in the middle and the bank needs to remove it from the Wallet.
