I have a folder of Mac video files from the mid 90s that QuickTime player will not play or open. These are old enough files that they have no file name extension. I’ve tried typing in .MOV .MPG into at the end of the file name to no avail. Solutions? Thanks.

Please try to avoid using * or / in filenames; rename instead. Those special characters may be ‘escaped’ by the system sometimes, but certainly not all of the time, and then that will be cause for errors by itself.

A low quality 6 sec. H.264 240×240px clip could be that size, but the ’90s didn’t have H.264 efficiency yet.
As a last resort (after filename cleanup), try a media file analyzer tool like Invisor Lite, or similar. See what it reports.
No go on VLC which I had on hand. All files in this ancient folder show file type to be exec and file size is way too small to be a .mov file, (but they are) not sure what that means. Are they all "lost"?
you can try and see if you can open them with either IINA media player or VLC media player.
