Apple Wallet Tap Issue

Hi, this is my first post to the community!

My iPhone Apple Wallet is not tapping, or connecting, to any device. What I mean: when I go to pay for something or tap into something using my college Digital ID, the card comes up onto my screen and says "Hold Near Reader," but does not connect with the reader, even after waiting and multiple attempts. The reading device, usually a payment receiver at a store, does not react at all. It's like my phone isn't connecting with it, or doesn't pick up on it. There is no "error" message or any indication that the wallet is unavailable.

The debit card in my apple wallet has enough money in it and the physical debit card taps perfectly. Similarly, my college Digital ID (added to my Apple Wallet through the GET Mobile App) isn't tapping into my dorm, residence or dining halls. I've made sure my phone has enough charge, tried it without my case off, and triple-checked that both my Digital ID and debit card are compatible with Apple Pay.

My college Digital ID defaults to the Express feature, and that isn't working either. I have tried everything I have come across in trouble-shooting: restarting the phone, logging in-and-out of my Apple ID, getting the latest software update, deleting the cards from my wallet and re-adding them, and opening in and out of the Wallet app.

I don't feel like this is a hardware issue, but I know very little technically about iPhones. Any advice would be very helpful! If all else fails, I will reach out to Apple Support.

Contact Apple Support at 1-800-MY-APPLE and discuss your issue. It most definitely sounds like a hardware issue. Apple Support can do remote diagnostics and test the NFC module. If some cards were working and some weren’t it probably would be software or bank issue. But no cards working sounds like a hardware issue. If the iPhone doesn’t have Apple Care or Apple Support wants to charge you, take it to an Apple Retail Store or Best Buy and they can test the NFC module in the store.
