"Battery Will Not Charge" Message on Late 2023 16" MacBook Pro.

16" MacBook Pro purchased new at Christmas 2023. After updating to Sonoma 14.3.1 the battery is stuck at 96% and will not charge. When I hover the cursor over the battery icon is says "Battery is Not Charging."

I have gone through the list of "Check your Software" on this page:

If your Mac battery won’t charge - Apple Support

I have done all of the software checks on that page with no resolution. I ran the diagnostics as per that page and received the code ADP000 and "No Issues Found" text.

I have tried plugging the machine into different wall outlets around the house and inspected all connections. Everything is perfect. It's brand new and has hardly been used.

I also turned off the "Optimized Battery Charging" option so that's not it either.

Hi,

You'd better contact Apple Support or take your MacBook Pro to your local retail Apple Store, Genius Bar or Apple Authorized Service Provider to be examined your MacBook Pro there before one year limited warranty is expired.

After spending hours chatting and reinstalling macOS the issue was simply that the computer wouldn't begin charging until the level went down low enough. I think I checked at 88% and when I plugged it into the wall it immediately began charging. Now why wouldn't an Apple technician think to try this? Instead, I ended up doing all sorts of tests and diagnostics and reinstalling macOS. Hours of my day.....
