Disconnecting HomePod mini

can I disconnect my HomePod mini without having access to the original iPhone it was connected to

If you were the owner, then yes.

I’m thinking that you got a new phone??? Just setup the new phone to the same iCloud account.

Somebody else was the ‘owner’ and now the relationship has changed? You’ll need to do a factory reset. If this is one speaker that was stereo paired with another, you’ll have to unpair them first and I’m not sure how to do that without the ‘owner’ device.
