Powerbeats Pro can’t reset or pair via Bluetooth

Like many on the forum, I’m a bit past the one year mark so out of warranty. The left bud stopped working so I forgot them in the Bluetooth list to then reconnect them. However now the light was flashing white and not showing up in the list. So I held down the button (tried dozens of times now, charging and uncharging) to do a reset but the light just keeps flashing white no matter what I try. No red flash. This seems to be a common problem. I’ve tried pressing the logo’s pause/start buttons too but that didn’t work. I left the case charge overnight, called Apple support and they sent me in to the store. The genius said I was out of luck and would have to buy a new pair. Well I bought Plantronics back beats about 5 years ago and they still work despite costing less. Can Apple do anything for me and the rest of the people with this problem. I’d rather not create more e-waste. Electronics bought for for $250 should last longer than 18 months.

Nobody here can tell you what Apple may, or may not, do about this as we are not Apple employees. I doubt an employee can either.

Basically, Apple has to "recognize" that this is a serious issue first. Then decide, whether or not, they will address it.

Regardless, we have the option to either, voice our concerns directly to Apple (this forum is not the correct medium for that), just wait it out, or go with another product (Apple or not.)

You may have done this already but here is my 2¢:

Remove powerbeats from "find my" if it is active.

Forget your powerbeats pro on the device.

with powerbeats in the case, press the reset button in the case and hold 15 sec, mine flashed red once around 10 sec. Keep holding until it goes to red-white-red continuously. On your iPhone (or other device) choose connect.

The only thing above that is different from various things I've read is I experienced the r-w-r flashing that seems to be what most BT devices do for pairing.

sorry if this doesn't work. I agree with your e-waste statement.

Did you check the charge on the buds? You can check them from the battery widget on your phone. Maybe the one bud isn't charging. I have had that problem more than once.

If you don't have a charge, use a q-tip and rubbing alcohol to clean both the contacts on the bud and the contacts in the charging case. To verify I have a connection, with only the single 'bad' bud in the charger I press the bud down to insure a good contact with the pins and look at the light. If it goes red, it's charging. Then if it goes out when I release pressure on the bud I fiddle with the ear hooks so that they force the bud to make contact when the case is closed. I do all this with one bud so that I know that the 2nd bud is not effecting what I see with the charging light. Once it's all good then I put both buds into the case.

In the past several years I've had to do this many times. Now, I always check the iPhone battery widget to make sure it indicates both buds are charging. With iOS17 the widget doesn't always show both buds charging like it used to in earlier versions of iOS.

Sorry it didn't work out. I'm fresh outta ideas. As I said, I've had occasional hiccups with my earbuds over the past 3 yrs but always managed to get it working again. I've never been a fan of AppleCare. I have sometimes bought it but never ever had the occasion to use it. If you have an Apple Store nearby you could try the Genius Bar and see if they can get it going w/o paying to repair it. If you are handy with your own repairs, I did once replace a battery in an earlier version of Beats. Try searching for Joe's Gaming or IfixIt. I don't know if it's proper to put links here or not so searching for repair of your device will find several links. I'm sure Apple would do a better job since in many cases they simply replace the product, not sure if that is true for your device.

In spite of what I said above, in the 10 yrs of owning a number of Apple devices this past year I've had 2 instance where it would have been very cost effective to have had apple care. I take very careful care of the devices I own but 1 mo after buying an iPhone 15PM I slipped and fell on my butt and totally destroyed the iPhone in my back pocket, smashing the screen and bending the case. So instead of spending a few hundred on insurance I spent 1200 on a new phone. And I this time I bought the apple care.

Good luck.

Very helpful response, thank you. I’d tried that except for removing from Find My. I’m now back to the state where only one bud is working. To get back there I had to let the case get to 0% battery since it wouldn’t reset. Anyway, after the battery drain which took a few days, I charged it for maybe 30 minutes and was able to reconnect. I’ll try forgetting and removing from Find My to see if I can get both buds to pair.

That’s a good tip, thank you. I did try cleaning the contacts when I first had this issue, even though they appeared clean, and I did use isopropyl alcohol. It didn’t work then but I tried again and it’s not fixing the current issue. Right now I can’t connect since I forgot it in Bluetooth and removed from Find My to see if I could reset the case to get both buds working. So I can’t check the charge on the buds. I seem to recall there being decent charge, about 70% on both but only the left bud had the lightening bolt on the icon, indicating only the left was being charged by the case OR only it was paired with the phone. If I get it reset or connected I’ll check the charge status again and give the contacts another clean. I think I’ll have to wait for the case and bud batteries to die to reconnect since that’s what I had to do last time. Right now nothing is working again.
