connection fails when connecting to network drive

Trying to connect to my NAS in Finder. The device is shown, but when I try to connect to it, the connection fails. I enter my standard login credentials and the dialog box shakes and will not connect.

the credential required to connect to a network server are NOT likely to be the same as your Mac login credentials, unless you have worked VERY hard to make both sets exactly the same.

the credential required are the credentials that would get your file access if you logged in directly to the network file server. if you have not changed those, they are still set to the factory defaults.
