Recovery OS showing University of Sydney configuration (Ventura)

Hi Guys

Purchased 3 macs (2X macbook air + 1X imac) on auction here in Sydney. So, when running (Command-R or Option-Command-R) recovery it installs a ventura macOS propriety of University of Sydney, even with user/password from them. I can cheat the system creating a Ventura USB with Ventura.

Since a bought them to resell, it is no nice to inform the buyier that he can't use the internet to recovery his machine.

Question: Is there anyway to remove that from the mac, apple site or HDD (if resides there)? Is that information comes from where (BIOS if the macs have one)?

Booting with my Ventura clone (option key) the problems goes away.

Thank you!

Cheers

If and only if I understand correctly

Has the University of Sydney done things right ?

What to do before you sell, give away, trade in, or recycle your Mac

And, have they removed the Serial Numbers of these computers from the MDM Service ( Mobile Digital Management ) Service Data Base ?

I would verify with them before moving forwards with any of your plans to selling the computer off

PS - There is no BIOS in Apple Computers

Before you ask about the importance MDM services.

Even if you were able to reinstall Ventura as a clean installation

The MDM Service can, at any time, take Control of the Computer as the Serial Number is still Registered in their Data Base

The Serial Number is a unique set of alpha numerical digits that are embedded on/ in the LogicBoard and can not be removed

Hello PRP_53
Well after an extensive number of phone calls they agreed with me that those Macs were registered in their database. They relase 2 of them but one still locked.
Last email they said:
"That one device that you sent a photo of in the PDF displaying an Asset Tag popup will need to be reset as it has progressed too far in the setup.

Any idea what he is talking about?
Thx mate!

Well well, we were right from the very beginning (sadly right )

" Asset Tag popup " not a clue what that is

What can say beyond what has been said, sadly.

Have the computer evaluated by the Professionals who have the Special Hardware Software and Expertise to diagnose the issue and offer possible solutions

Make an Appointment at the Apple Genius Bar

The above would require you transporting 1 or all of the computer and have them attempt to wipe the computers and reinstall macOS

That may challenge the Universities' assertion should the professionals not be able to put the machines right

The person or organization that conducted the Auction may have acquired the 3 Apple Computers by dubious means.

Knowingly or Unknowingly, they have sold you the computers in this statement does occur

Some of the oldest Scams, especially when selling Used Apple Devices in this state - Lock to someones MDM Service still registered and acquired by doubtful means.

Right now, they have their money and you have 3 semi expensive computers that are not useable.

Word form the wise.

When purchasing any used Apple Device, alway purchase Directly from Trusted Sources, like Apple.

Sorry, without actually knowing Who was the Previous Own was and all the very specific details of what MDM or similar type of Service was associated with the computer, you have 3 niece paperweights.

G'Day

Thank you for your prompt response, mate! I had the suspicious that was something in the logic board. I could get an attorney and try to get something back from the university but the costs will be greater than of the amount I spent. So, lost a little bit of money. I live in the pension and just trying to make an extra money. Auctions no more! I will sale the displays, case etc as spare parts. I appreciated your help! Cheers

Thank you again PRP_53

I've managed to install macos one of them (without internet) and now I can give commands like

sudo profiles show -type enrollment and get an output.

Question is; if my computers are not in their database, can I manually remove the Remote Management lock definitely?

If I can do that with Terminal commands and everything goes well, does everytime that I need to reinitialize (command+R) the problem will come back?

Where that information kept (Net or Logic Board)?

I am an old man living on the pension in Australia. Just trying to make extra bucks to survive!

Bless your heart! Cheers
