My numbers file uploaded to google drive now won't open.

So I went to save some space on my mac, and as this file was a shared file using gmail i figured i'd upload it to the google cloud... I deleted it from my mac.

I then went to open it in Google Drive and it's now no longer a file, it's a folder with multiple files/folders in it... Then when i download it back from the google drive to my mac, it won't open!

Please help!

iMac, OS X 10.11

Is it a folder with files like this in it:

If so, put .numbers on the end of the folder name to turn it back into a numbers file.

If you take a numbers file and replace the .numbers extension with .zip then unzip it you will get a folder that looks like in the screenshot. If you put .numbers onto the end of the folder name it will become a Numbers file again.

Argh. The Index folder has the actual spreadsheet but it is stored as a bunch of iwa files that are a compressed file that iWork apps use. The error message doesn't provide much of a clue but I find that if I delete any of the little files in the Index folder I get a "damaged and can't be opened" message. I can delete everything else and it will open. So your problem may be something else.

If the file is not personal or sensitive and you don't mind sharing, I can try to take a look at it. Chances are slim I'll figure anything out but I'll try if you want. I put my email address in my bio for a short time. I don't know if it will get removed or not but I will remove it myself shortly. Click on my name to go to my profile.
