Unable to add contacts in MacBook Air Sonoma 14.2

Brand new MacBook Air, Sonoma 14.2.

Why can't I add contacts into my Contacts? I go to enter the name and it slips right into "no name".

**** annoying for a brand new expensive computer!

I wonder if Apple just expects everyone to have an iPhone (which I don't have)? If so, it's a very poor decision. A brand new computer should have a functioning Contacts app, period.

No, Apple isn't expecting everyone to have an iPhone.

Here's a couple of things you can try:

  • Make sure your Mac is updated with the latest version of Sonoma, which currently is 14.3.1.
    • See if that made any change to your Contact app's behavior.
  • Reboot into Safe Mode, and give it about 5-10 minutes to do all its "behind the scenes" actions, as it often clears out temp files and caches that can interfere with things. Start up your Mac in safe mode - Apple Support
    • See if that made any change to your Contacts app.
    • Reboot your Mac with a normal reboot.

Yes, I just tried hitting that add button, and as soon as I typed the last name, I lost the entry and the window went to an already existing contact. Very frustrating! It's as if the Mac developers completely ignored the Contacts app in Sonoma. In my old circa-2009 MacBook Pro (which I still have) I never had this problem.
